Denim jackets with patches
This type of jacket is suitable for unconventional people who want to stand out. This style came back from the 60s and 80s, when they were worn by strange kids listening to rock music, and by the musicians of this genre themselves. They have found a good way to show individuality in the form of patches that express their worldview. In those years, patches showed the names of punk rock groups, obscene expressions, and anti-state slogans. This is how the rockers expressed their protest.

Where to find and which one to choose
Nowadays, stripes can carry any meaning, from mood to complex ideology. The style can be any, here the whole style is in the stripes. They can illustrate your photo, company logo, emoticon, subculture, etc. Many companies make such jackets; the most creative applications can be seen from Gucci, Philipp Plein and Off White. Zara and H&M have budget but decent options.
Jackets with patches are offered in the collections of leading brands.
How to wear
Custom jackets require the same look. Ripped jeans, with patches or similar denim shorts, long sleeves or tops are suitable. You can add an exotic hairstyle, brightly colored cosmetics and unusual colors to your look. Accessories in the form of chains on a jacket or jeans, leather wristbands will also look interesting.

“Do It Yourself” or “do it yourself.” If you wish, you can make the model completely for yourself:
- You need to choose a denim jacket that matches the style and color in any store.
- Find the desired illustration and order a patch. Now there are many companies providing this service, you just need to give them a drawing. You can also make your own patch using a stencil.
- Contact a studio where this patch will be sewn onto the jacket, or do it yourself.
You can sew patches on jackets yourself with any design.
Please note: by adding spikes or metal rivets or chains to your denim, you can further personalize your style. You can buy these accessories in rock stores or find them on the Internet.
VARIETIES OF LEVI'S DENIM JACKETS: TYPE I, II AND III
One way or another, a denim jacket is found in the wardrobe of not only denimheads, but also ordinary people. It gained its popularity due to its practicality and easy compatibility with all types of clothing. Often people do not think about the details of the jacket, but they were constantly changing, adapting to the times.
Levi's Vintage Clothing itself ), the first prototype of the Type I jacket appeared in 1905.
At that time, Levi Strauss & Co. called its product “Blouse”, and the term “Number One” did not appear until after 1917.
The 1905 Blouse was made from lightweight but durable 9 ounce denim woven at Amoskeag Mills in Manchester, New Hampshire. Levi Strauss & Co. set a radically new silhouette - a properly chosen jacket would definitely sit above the back pockets of jeans.
Among the main details were:
1. Large chest pocket with flap, located on the left. Its shape exactly matched the back pockets of my jeans.
2. The presence of two vertical folds, stitched in three places. Workwear sizing didn't work well in the early 20th century, and a person didn't always benefit from having his Blouse fit properly. So that the jacket does not restrict movement and allows you to wear a warm sweater in the cold season, the folds are unraveled, adding free space. They could be sewn together again if desired. The pleats have also received the informal name “Knife Pleats”.
3. Belt for tightening the waist, also known as Cinch (cinch-back). It was transferred to Blouse from jeans of the same time and had a similar function - size adjustment.
In 1936, the “506XX” model appeared: a Red Tab was added to the chest pocket, and, most importantly, the main material was changed - the fabric for production was purchased from Cone Mills , and it weighed 12 ounces (it is this Type I model that is most often found at Levi's Vintage Clothing ). Optionally, a warm striped Blanket lining could be added to this model, which made it possible to work in the jacket even in cool weather. It is worth adding that the term “jacket” began to be applied to Type I only in 1938 thanks to one of the Western clothing catalogs.
Along with the situation in the country, the details of the jackets also changed. Because in 1944 by Levi Strauss & Co. (like many others) began to save on material, then in the end their Type I “got away” with only the absence of a flap at the pocket and a different form of cinch (for example, the Lee 101 Cowboy lost the cinch altogether). LVC reproductions of this model for about 5-10 years.
At this time, production of the Type I is not limited to Levi's Vintage Clothing . Most famous Japanese and American brands always have their own interpretation of this jacket.
Type II
The first denim jackets with two pockets appeared in the 40s, with USN, cowboy and blue-collar jackets having different styles. In addition, second-rate manufacturers arrived and managed to release their vision of the Type I not only for workers, but also for women and children.
By 1953 (in other sources the first versions are dated 1952), the Levi’s (we will call it that in the future) released a rethought and modern version of its predecessor, coded “507XX”. Although we know its other name – Type II.
Despite maintaining the general concept (unlike the Lee , but more on that later), the new version of the denim jacket was very different from the previous one:
1. The overall cut has changed a lot. Type II became shorter than its predecessor, and the width of the sleeves decreased. The change in fit not only increased comfort, but also emphasized the new design of Levi's from 1947.
2. Two chest pockets. The reason for adding a second pocket was a lot of factors, from a banal increase in convenience and capacity (you must agree, it is always more convenient to keep the necessary items in jacket pockets, especially if you are a cowboy and spend most of your time on a horse), to competition with other manufacturers.
3. Different rear design. Cinch remained in the 40s; in wartime, Lee and Levi’s . The width of the waist part was adjusted using snap buttons, which have recently come into use, and for additional comfort, 2 folds were made on the back.
The fifties were no longer considered the time of workers and cowboys. The Type II has become a comfortable denim jacket for everyone, including motorcyclists and teenagers. One of the popularizers of the 507 model was Elvis Presley, who wore it during his early career.
Someone tore off the sleeves of the Type II and wore it as a vest, someone did art on the back, private companies applied and sewed on their logos - the custom was comparable to motorcycle leather jackets. As with the previous model, the Type II is reproduced in its most classic form by Levi's Vintage Clothing . What follows is an interesting trend - the Japanese offer their understanding of the classic version, while the Americans prefer to create something at the junction of the two models.
Type III
Most likely, Levi's was forced to create this design due to obvious competition with Lee , whose 101J style was clearly more popular at the time of the late 50s.
It is important to note that the 101J, which appeared in 1946, also survives today. In the 50s, Lee actively advertised their variations of the 101J - in addition to the usual denim version, there was a “Storm Rider” with a corduroy collar and Blanket lining, as well as a beige (less often green and black) lightweight version of the “Westerner”. So, 1958. Levi 's is adding a radically new style of suede jacket to its Authentic Western Wear line. She emphasized the line of the shoulders, the figure, and also sat perfectly both buttoned and unbuttoned. The size of the chest pockets has been reduced and horizontal folds have been removed. The public warmly received the new model.
To further show Lee who was “in charge,” a denim version was introduced in 1962, coded “557XX.” This style is known to some as the Type III, and to others as the “Trucker”.
Main details of the Type III model:
1. A radically new fit. The length remained at the Type II level, but the overall fit, unlike its predecessor, emphasized all the advantages of the American figure. Therefore, it is not surprising that such a jacket was bought not by truck drivers and all kinds of hard workers, but by progressive American youth.
2. Pockets-pockets-pockets. They shrank, ceased to be false and began to be located clearly at chest level. The pocket flap had a completely new shape, making the process of unfastening and fastening more convenient. Due to the fact that the volume of the pockets was sewn from the inside out, its front was decoratively stitched.
3. The other back. The waist still retained the adjuster bolts, but the back was no longer pleated. They were replaced by decorative seams, which, again, emphasized the waist.
4. Fabric. On this version there was no selvedge, but the fabric density was often not 12, but 14 ounces. The 557XX remained in this form until 1966.
At the turn of 1967-1968, Levi's reworked small parts and assigned the Type III a new code - 70505-0217. In parallel with this, the “Levis Slim Fit Jackets” line is being released - the same Type III, but made of corduroy. Moreover, the colors often corresponded to the spirit of the times - in addition to the typical beige, one could find brown, black and bright red colors. Another variation was model 941B, in which the main material was a special beige “Fog” fabric.
In 1969, perhaps the main event took place, at which the classic history of Type III can be completed. On the legendary Red Tab, the letter “E” in the word “Levi's” is no longer capitalized. This phenomenon will later be called “small e”. Actually, from these times on, they did a variety of things with the Type III - they mocked the cut, added slit pockets, experimented with the lining and processing method. However, you will recognize this particular style from thousands of others! The most classic version of the 1967 model is made by Levi's Vintage Clothing . Of course, every good shop has their own version of the Type III, but it's worth highlighting Sugar Cane with their exact reproduction of the 1962 Model 557XX.

How to choose
Jessica Alba in a denim jacket
Despite the fact that denim jackets are a universal item in both women's and men's wardrobes, choosing one is not an easy task. Girls who are short and have a thin build should purchase cropped models. Overweight ladies are advised to opt for fitted jackets that reach mid-thigh length; long models should be avoided, as they can visually distort the body parameters.
For tall, slender women, fitted jeans with slightly flared sleeves are suitable. Overweight ladies with large breasts should pay attention to models with a V-neck, which will highlight their advantages and hide some flaws. An equally important role when choosing a denim jacket is played by the density of the fabric. The jacket should fit like a glove and not bulge on the sides even when unbuttoned.
Oversize style
“Oversize” is a baggy-looking garment with a large cut. Although it looks voluminous, there is no feeling that it does not fit properly. Designers offer various types of models. The most popular of them:
- leather jacket;
- baseball jacket (bomber);
- blazer.

Denim can be of different densities, this is worth taking into account so as not to overdo it.
