For short hair
For short hair, experts recommend wearing a mesh cap at night, which will help keep any hairstyle in perfect condition. Of course, we are not talking about complex styling, for example, a Hollywood wave, but still it will remain for tomorrow in better shape than without it.
Apply hair oil before bed
Applying oil to dry hair helps maintain high levels of hydration even at night. The oils create a protective layer around each follicle, minimizing the risk of damage to the ends. So if you usually wake up with dry and unruly hair, using oil will help improve its condition.
Which hair oil is best? Argan oil is highly nutritious and non-greasy. It penetrates deep into the hair shaft, restoring it from the inside. With constant use, your hair will look more beautiful, soft and shiny.
Comb and tie your hair
Comb your hair, back first. Then comb the front part. Divide the strands into two equal parts. You should end up with two strands of the same size.
Wrap each half of your hair tightly around the back of your head. Gather the hair on the left side of your head approximately in the middle, but at the back, as if you were going to make a braid. Place a section of hair at the back of your head with the ends resting on the right side of your head and secure it with 1 curved bobby pin. Do the same with the right side of your hair, wrapping it tightly around the back of your head on the left side.
If you part your hair on the left side, wrap your hair to the right. If you part your hair on the right side, wrap your hair to the left.
If any part of your hair was secured with an elastic band during styling, remove it before you begin wrapping your hair.
If your hair is very long, you may need to wrap each section around the front of your head and then back again. Be sure to hold your strands firmly. They should fit snugly to the back of your head.
Secure the ends with curved bobby pins. Once both sides of your hair are wrapped tightly around your head, use curved bobby pins to secure the ends in place. Curved clips should shape your hair in a way that reduces the number of kinks they can create in your hair.
If your hair is very long and you had to wrap it around the front of your head, you may need to add a few more curved pins to secure it nicely in place.
Wrap a scarf around your gathered hair to hold it in place. Take your scarf and wrap it tightly around the area where you styled your hair. Place it at the back of your head, lift the sides up, and tie a knot in the front of the scarf so you don't have to sleep on the knot. It is very uncomfortable.
A scarf will keep your bobby pins in place and prevent your hair from moving across your pillow while you sleep.
Wear your long hair at night
If you have a normal or dry scalp, try to wash your hair in the evening. This will free up your morning, leaving time for beautiful styling of your hair already prepared in the evening. Wash, dry and style your hair before going to bed. If you have smooth hair, tie it into a loose ponytail at the top of your head. If you have curly or wavy hair, carefully twist it into a bun, securing it at the highest point of your head.
Use a soft fabric elastic to secure your bun or ponytail. The next morning, simply release your hair and apply some shine and style serum.
How to sleep with short hair. How to maintain curls at night
The issue of “secondary” use of curls and their preservation at night is relevant both for natural curls and for curls obtained using curlers of various types and tongs. For the former, the main advantage of this approach will be the ability not to wet your hair in the morning (this is especially true in winter, when there is no way to not finish drying, and the very essence of caring for curly hair does not allow you to speed it up with a hairdryer. For the latter, this is an opportunity to get greater returns from hair drying. with such efforts of the resulting hairstyle. During the night, two main troubles happen to curls: A. They crumple. Mostly they are crushed by the head and shoulders and arms, partly by the rest of the hair. The solution is to pull the hair out onto the top of the head, put it on a pillow BEHIND the head, above it , where there will be no shoulders, no arms, no heavy head. B. The curls “dishevel” and from solid ones turn into many small strands split into pieces... There are two reasons for this: uneven surfaces disrupt the smoothness of the curls (at the same time, “uneven” - this is everything in a row: linen and cotton pillowcases, a hand and fingers slipped under the head) and secondly, he presses the curls with his shoulders and hands, and they stretch and deform when he moves his head. The solution is to isolate the hair from uneven surfaces and, again, pull it up by the crown.
Method one: silk/satin pillowcases + loose ponytail on top of the head.
The advantage is that this method does not look funny, that is, you can use it if someone who is not accustomed to your hair miracles is spending the night with you. There are two disadvantages: you need to get a smooth silk pillowcase somewhere, and the tail in free flight still flutters, unravels and slides under the back.
Method two: tie the wealth with a silk scarf.
In this case, the hair is very carefully fixed above the level of the head, and the silk of the scarf covers it from external influences. The main disadvantage is that it looks funny)))) My husband says that I prevent him from sleeping with these handkerchiefs: he wakes up at night, and then cannot fall asleep for a long time - he giggles. I don’t mind, they say healthy laughter prolongs life. For those, however, who sleep alone, this solution is excellent: a handkerchief, unlike a pillowcase, is usually easily found somewhere in the closets.
Next I show how to tie this silk “cap” from a scarf measuring 80cm*80cm.
More than 90*90 is not needed, there will be nowhere to put the tail from the scarf, and less than 70*70 will be awkward to tie on the forehead, so there is freedom in choosing the size, but don’t get too carried away.
Tilt your head forward and gently shake your curls down
Take the scarf with both hands by one of the sides and place the edge you are holding on the back of your head along the hairline. The cloth of the scarf should hang from the head along with the hair
Tie the ends that you hold in your hands above your forehead. The scarf now hugs the hair from all sides. Grab the scarf so as not to pinch your hair; it should move freely inside the resulting “cover”, and lift your head up. The hair will “fall” onto your head inside the scarf and somehow settle on the top of your head. This is roughly what we are trying to achieve. All that remains is to secure them there.
Roll the empty tail of the scarf into a bundle, making sure that no curls get caught in it. Don't curl it too much, your hair needs space.
Throw this tourniquet loosely back and secure it to the back of your head. That's all. You can sleep perfectly with the resulting crazy design on your head, and in the morning you can remove it and “revive” your hair with wet hands. Here are examples of what you can get in the morning after using this design (the first - before the “revival”, the second - after).
Straight hair wrap
Buy a silk or satin scarf. On store shelves you will find a great variety of head scarves, but the best ones for maintaining straight hair are silk or satin scarves. These materials reduce friction between your hair and the pillow, thereby eliminating the appearance of frizz. You can choose any bandana, turban or neck scarf style as long as you can wrap it and tie it around your head.
Large turbans are also available, but they may be too big for your head. This gives your hair full space. When there is a lot of space for your hair under such a scarf, there will be no effect and creases will appear. This type of scarf is suitable only for the lucky owners of thick strands. Try to use a scarf that can be wrapped and tied tightly to your head.
Apply dry shampoo and oil
Apply oil and dry shampoo to thin, straight hair. If your hair is naturally straight and fine, it may be prone to oiliness. Instead of washing your hair every day, try using dry shampoo to control oil and maintain volume in your hair. Spray dry shampoo about 6 inches from your roots and let it sit on your hair for 1 minute before working it into your roots with your fingers.
If you are using dry shampoo, take a spritz or two and start rubbing it into your scalp. Add more shampoo if necessary.
Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase
If wrapping your hair in a scarf or shawl doesn't sound appealing to you, you can benefit from a silk or satin pillowcase. A pillowcase will reduce friction between the pillow and your hair as you move your head throughout the night.
Buy silk or satin pillowcases online from online retailers or bedding stores.
Even if you don't use a scarf, it's still a good idea to wrap your hair to minimize tangles while you sleep.
Can I use styling products before bed?
It is not recommended to use styling products while sleeping. They have the property of sticking to the surface of the pillow, and then getting on the face and clogging the skin pores. However, to preserve the styling until the morning, their limited use is justified. You can use a small amount of foam or varnish. However, their direct application in the morning does not require a long time or much labor.
To ensure that your hairstyle retains its natural appearance after sleep, it is recommended to wash your hair regularly. Never leave your hair dirty and greasy for a long time. No hairstyle will look good on such hair. Also, periodically wash the comb you use for combing. In this case, the curls become dirty much more slowly. By following these simple tips, you will always look perfect by morning!
Hair Mask
When was the last time you did a hair mask? To improve the overall condition of your hair, tame frizz and get rid of dryness, the mask should be used at least once a week.
Our hair is very delicate and therefore needs constant care and attention. A good quality hair mask will help restore, strengthen, soften and tame unruly hair. Apply your chosen product to your scalp before going to bed, secure your hair with a soft elastic and put on a protective cap. You can also place a small towel on top of your pillowcase to protect it from stains. When you wake up, wash off the mask and wash your hair as usual.
A few words about materials
If you want to maintain your style, then you should avoid nightgowns and bed linen made from artificial silk and wool. The thing is that synthetic materials, in contact with the skin, accumulate static electricity, which has a negative effect on the hairstyle.
After sleeping on cotton bedding, you may notice that your curls are excessively dry and brittle - this fabric absorbs moisture. But natural satin and silk have a beneficial effect on hair. You can replace the mesh cap with a scarf made from these materials.
Comb wet hair and then dry it
Comb damp, naturally straight hair and dry it completely before bed. If your hair is mostly straight or slightly wavy, try washing it before bed. Brush your hair with a brush or wide-tooth comb to detangle it, and let your hair air dry or blow dry.
Make sure your hair is completely dry before going to bed, as even a little moisture can cause frizz.
Use shampoos and conditioners labeled as straightening and sulfate-free, which can dry out your hair and make it frizzy.
