Both had very specific requirements for clothing: comfort, non-staining, wear resistance. Therefore, the main attributes of a cowboy were jeans, boots, a hat, a vest and a plaid shirt.

Interestingly, it was not only men who were cowboys in the Wild West. Women were called "cowgirls" and had been in the cowboy ranks since the 19th century. At that time, this was rare, because women mainly took care of the house, and did not know how to stay in the saddle, moving in wagons or in a special side “female” saddle. However, women did not always become cowgirls of their own free will. They did hard work on the ranch due to the death or absence of a husband. And some ranchers couldn't pay the cowboys for their work, so his daughter or wife would help him out by doing the cowboy's work. They were dressed appropriately to make it comfortable to move and ride.

Later, women even began to participate in rodeos and became professionals in these competitions.

Long dresses became a problem for female cowboys, while wearing men's clothing was considered the height of indecency. This is why skirts became shorter, as pioneered by famous rodeo competitor Anne Oakley in 1900.

The clothing of women who lived on a farm, ranch or small town was very simple. Blouse with a skirt or dress, made from natural fabrics. The clothes were closed and comfortable, spacious and layered. Village women valued their honor highly and hid their bodies from prying eyes. Therefore, the clothes were multi-layered, because the curves of the body were not visible.

Men mostly wore leather trousers because they did not get worn out from riding in the saddle. Hats protected cowboys and farmers from the sun and rain, and high boots protected from snake bites and were comfortable for riding.

Although the usual boho was almost never worn in my circle. Firstly, on average, this style is easier to wear in the summer, and we have it for 1-2 months a year. Secondly, not everyone likes to look like a gypsy, even if it is fashionable. And even in the office they won’t understand :)

With a “cowboy” it’s even more difficult. Not everyone would dare to dress as if they had watched a western. And where should we go?

Of course, both Jess and Matt are very brutal and rodeo-hardened guys, but that doesn't mean they can't talk fashion. On the contrary, professional fashion plays an important role for cool cowboys.

“I grew up on a ranch,” Jess says. “I was groomed from childhood to be a cowboy, so I immediately got used to wearing jeans and Wrangler shirts and a cowboy hat every day of my life.” My clothes never had unnecessary embellishments or pockets.”

In addition, he further shares, although he has a uniform for every day, for competitions he wears special trousers and even special underwear - and this is a tribute to traditions and superstitions.

But, nevertheless, they wanted to remain feminine and attractive.

The country style also absorbed elements of the culture of the indigenous population of America - the Indians; their clothing was perfectly suited to the conditions of the West.

How to create a wardrobe?

To look like a real girl from the Wild West, you should follow a few rules:

• You should give preference to clothes made in Mexico or the USA, since these are the countries where real cowboy clothes are made. You should immediately refuse to buy European or Chinese analogues. Then your image will be original.

A cowboy hat and boots should always be in tandem. You should not wear a hat without boots, although shoes look quite harmonious in a cowboy style without a headdress. You should forget about hats on a string. This option has long been outdated.
