More and more people are signing up to get vaccinated against COVID-19, but there are those who still do not trust Russian vaccines, believing that they have not yet been sufficiently studied and have many contraindications. We asked the most popular questions to the expert.
Lavrishchev Alexander Alexandrovich Physician-therapist, leading specialist of the Semeynaya clinic network
Why are there so many myths associated with the vaccine?
This is primarily due to the fact that information on COVID-19 infection is rapidly updated, which is why it seems to the average person that we know nothing at all about this disease.
In fact, modern medicine is a rapidly developing science in which knowledge is multiplying and changing right before our eyes, and this is normal. It is now very difficult for any dogmas and rules to get into modern medicine, and an increasing number of doctors literally monitor updated information on the area of interest to them literally every day. It is much worse if your doctor adheres to archaic (outdated) methods, relies on personal opinion and experience, allows the use of means that have not been proven effective in scientific research, denies methods approved by science: in this case, both the doctor himself and you may end up in trouble.
For example, one of the myths about COVID-19 is related to the fact that with this disease the sense of smell necessarily disappears, although science already showed in the first wave of the pandemic that loss of smell is, in principle, characteristic of 60% of any acute respiratory infections, and not just COVID-19. In Russia, this has even been included in clinical recommendations for doctors, and most patients and our doctors are clearly confident that if a patient has “lost his sense of smell,” then it is definitely COVID-19. This only shows that whoever made these recommendations simply does not read scientific medical news.

Is it possible to get vaccinated if you are taking COCs or other hormonal drugs?
In fact, if you are taking a COC, your doctor should have taken your individual risk of thrombosis into account when prescribing this drug for you. The fact is that excess body weight, smoking, obesity, air travel, and other factors pose a much greater risk of thrombosis than the COVID-19 vaccine. To date, the connection between taking COCs and the dangers of vaccination against COVID-19 has not been scientifically confirmed. Data may change over time, and that's normal. But today, air travel and smoking while taking COCs pose a greater risk than vaccination. Thrombosis in COVID-19 is one of the main demons in the arena of mass horror. Indeed, in the first wave, reports appeared that one of the mechanisms for the development of the disease is increased blood clotting in the vessels of the lungs, and therefore anticoagulants (blood thinning drugs, although this term is not correct) began to be swept off the shelves of pharmacies. It got to the point that people arranged “resuscitation at home” for themselves, injecting low-molecular-weight heparins. We have yet to count the victims of this, since the unjustified use of anticoagulants poses a serious threat to life and health, as it leads to fatal bleeding, as well as stroke. Russian clinical guidelines also include anticoagulants, even for those patients treated at home. In the West, they are given only to patients who are hospitalized, and only if the individual risk requires it.
Air travel and vaccinations - when is it possible?
Taking into account the fact that within 2-3 days after vaccination there may be a deterioration in health, it is better to refrain from heroism and wait out this period at rest.
For example, many people experience a short-term increase in body temperature after vaccination and, despite the fact that this symptom is well relieved with a Paracetamol tablet, it is better to refrain from air travel, if only because you may be “rejected” - there are automatic body temperature scanners at airports, and The staff also have hand-held thermometers - I think it’s better for you not to get into a situation where airport services start to find out why your body temperature is elevated. Otherwise, no link has been established between the dangers of air travel and COVID-19 vaccination. However, it is important to remind you that even full vaccination against COVID-19 does not completely protect you from infection with this virus, therefore, while on the plane, follow the rules of personal protection and follow the instructions of airline representatives.
Is it possible to get sick after the first vaccination? What to do in this case?
Vaccination, even after the second dose of the vaccine, does not completely protect you from contracting the virus - it is intended to reduce the severity of the infection in you, as well as the risk of death and hospitalization. If you have only had one dose of the vaccine, these risks are even greater, although much lower than for people who have not had the vaccine at all. If you get sick after the first vaccination, then... This is where the paths of Russian and Western medicine diverge. Russian medicine suggests the following answer to this question: if a person has had COVID-19 within 21 days after the first dose of the vaccine, then vaccination should begin again after 6 months; if he was sick with another acute respiratory infection, then the second dose will need to be administered 14 days after recovery. In the West, everything is simpler - you will be given the second component of the vaccine as soon as you recover, no matter whether it was COVID-19 or another acute respiratory infection.
When can you plan a pregnancy after vaccination?
In the West, a few days ago, a study of pregnant and lactating women who underwent the vaccination procedure was launched, so we will receive comprehensive answers to this question within 1-2 years.
Preliminary data obtained in the West did not reveal any danger of vaccination for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Primarily because the Pfizer vaccine does not contain a live viral vector. But for the J&J vaccine, which contains a live carrier virus, no dangerous consequences have been identified. Where such confidence? The fact is that the world forgot about the Ebola outbreak several years ago in Africa, when we were on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe, and the world was saved by the Merck vector vaccine, which is very similar to our Sputnik V and the Western J&J vaccine. And no one then said: “they did something on their knees, and so quickly,” but the world was saved.
According to the experience of using this vaccine, vector vaccines do not pose any danger to pregnant and nursing mothers.
What's on the Russian agenda? In Russia, a formulation like “the use of a drug is justified when the expected benefit is greater than the expected harm” is traditionally used. This is not the best medical practice, since the doctor finds himself in a situation where all the bad things will fly at him, even when the whole world knows that a particular drug is absolutely safe for pregnant and lactating women. My personal advice: find a reputable doctor you can trust and discuss all the risks and make an informed decision.
Fast start
The Canadian actress did not have to visit Hollywood film studios, and the very first casting gave her one of the main roles in the debut film of director Tom Brady, “The Chick.” Rachel looked amazingly harmonious in the company of Rob Schneider, who, ironically, one day woke up in the body of the school diva, whom Rachel played. The light and very funny film is considered one of the best films about body swapping and the Hollywood debut of Rachel McAdams.

In the comedy “Mean Girls,” the actress brilliantly played a school bitch, spoiled and selfish, compared to whom both Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Seyfried were clearly inferior. For this work, Rachel received an MTV Award. “Mean Girls” - trailer Her role in the drama “The Notebook” again brought the young actress an award from MTV; in this film, chance brought her together with Ryan Gosling. It is known that the more experienced and famous Ashley Judd and Reese Witherspoon were considered for the role of Ellie, but director Nick Cassavetes approved Rachel, who impressed him with her combination of tenderness and passion during the auditions.
The film “The Notebook” is included in the golden fund of cinema and is a favorite film for millions of people. The luxurious Gena Rowlands shone in the role of the elderly Ellie, and Greg Marsden also starred in the film.
Can a vaccine affect DNA?
Yes, the vaccine changes our DNA. The bad news is that the coronavirus also changes it, inserting the entire set of its genes (and the consequences of this will still be studied), and the good news (there are even two!) is that the vaccine carries only one coronavirus gene, encoding S- protein, and this happens for a very short period of time - 1-2 days. Our cells have a built-in defense system, preventing foreign genetic material from freely inserting itself and dictating what to print. Genetic information from the coronavirus is also expelled, but this is not yet certain.

Is it possible to fly abroad with the Sputnik V vaccine?
Initially, our vaccine caused skepticism in the West due to the fact that we conducted clinical trials in our own way, and not in the way required by the West.
To put it simply, we very quickly became convinced that the vaccine was safe. But this was not pulled out of thin air - the fact is that vector vaccine technology was born many decades ago and has been well studied even on Ebola. However, our “Sputnik V” did not immediately gain confidence, or better yet, it is just beginning to gain confidence. More and more countries are recognizing its effectiveness, and it is also noted by the oldest medical journals in the United States, and every day more and more doors are opening for people who have been vaccinated with Sputnik.
Biography of Rachel McAdams
Budding figure skater
The fact is that both the increasingly popular actor and the star of “Sherlock Holmes” Rachel McAdams come from the same large city in the province of Ontario – London. She was the eldest in the family of a driver and a nurse - she was born on November 17, 1978. Later, brother and sister were born - Daniel and Kaylin.
In Canada, hockey and figure skating are considered very prestigious sports, so mother Sandra took little Rachel to the figure skating section. The girl was barely 4 years old at the time. Training and competition is hard work, fraught with injury and disappointment. But McAdams lasted until she was 18. And then she developed another, no less serious hobby, which became her life’s work.
Dreams Come True!
Or rather, it appeared earlier: Rachel became interested in acting in elementary school. And in 1990, when the girl was relaxing at a summer theater camp, she only strengthened her dreams of becoming an actress.
Five years later, she received an award at one of the theater festivals for her role in a school play. After receiving secondary education, the girl entered the Central Elgin Collegiate Institute, then York University (Toronto). She studied with excellent marks, and in 2001 she defended her diploma.
At the same time, in 2001, her work on the set of Canadian TV series and television films was already in full swing.
Gaining momentum
At the age of 23, the aspiring actress made her debut on the big screen in the low-budget Italian-Canadian comedy My Name is Tanino. It was shown at the Venice Film Festival and the film received a special mention. In 2002, another comedy work by McAdams was released - the film “Chick”. Rob Schneider played an arrogant beauty who one day wakes up as a not very handsome man over 30, while Rachel has a supporting role.
Two years later, the youth comedy “Mean Girls” starring Lindsay Lohan was released. And Rachel played the antagonist of Lohan’s heroine, the bitchy high school student Regina (though she was far from being a schoolgirl at that time - 25 years old, but it didn’t really hurt the eyes).
Melodrama, comedy, thriller...
But the melodrama “The Notebook” brought real popularity to the actress. Based on the prose of Nicholas Sparks, who knows how to squeeze a tear out of even an unsentimental reader, the film also turned out to be very touching. It was also accompanied by commercial success - with a budget of 29 million, the film earned 115.5 million.
In 2005, the artist again appeared in comedy – together with Owen Wilson they played a couple in “Wedding Crashers.”
But in Wes Craven's thriller Night Flight, she had to portray strong emotional stress, because the heroine is in the grip of a real psychopath, forcing her to become one of the main links in a contract killing.
Maybe she is destined to return?
It is significant that it was McAdams who gave Guy Ritchie the role of the clever, charming intriguer who was able to charm and fool Holmes himself.
We all remember from books that Irene Adler remained in the memory of the great detective as “That same woman,” the only one he loved. In Sherlock Holmes, the British character has a slightly different interpretation, but the couple of McAdams and Robert Downey Jr. turned out to be quite good. It’s a pity that in the next part of the franchise the heroine was dealt with so quickly and cruelly. Noomi Rapace, who took the role of the central female character, loses greatly to the charisma of the Canadian. But, they say, all is not lost - in the memories of the heroes (or somehow miraculously resurrected), Irene may appear in the threequel of the film.
