The history of the drink
Ground acorns are very similar to traditional coffee.
The history of the recipe originates in Germany. During the Second World War, a huge number of residents of this country drank the drink “ersatz”, which means “substitute”. Due to the shortage, residents were forced to replace their usual food products with such “ersatz”. Through trial and error, a recipe for acorn coffee was developed, which later became popular.

Collecting and storing acorns for the winter
Preparation must begin without waiting for winter, before the onset of the first frost. The ideal time is the beginning of October. You need to take ripe acorns; they have a light brown tint and do not lose their shape when pressed (there is a risk that the inside of the fruit is wormy if it is soft inside). The fruit is firm to the touch and easily separates from the cap.
- The collected acorns must be thoroughly washed, poured into a deep bowl and filled with water.
- The ones that pop up are not usable.
- On a dry baking sheet, the washed fruits are distributed evenly and sent to the oven, preheated to 200 degrees for 5 minutes.
- The fruits are ready when they have burst and acquired a dark chocolate hue. Next, you need to peel them and rinse them again.
- Wet fruits must be passed through a meat grinder to obtain a dense consistency.
- The resulting mass is dried on a baking sheet.
- The dried powder must be placed in a jar and closed with a tight lid.
In this form, the powder will retain its properties and will be suitable for use for about six months. Before use, the powder is ground again in a coffee grinder. The preparations are easy to store for a long time and the benefits of such a drink for the human body are an undeniable fact.
Please note that unripe, green oak fruits can cause severe poisoning. At the same time, acorns are not able to reach the desired state if they are cut off before they are fully ripe.

Storing ready-made coffee from acorns
A person will not receive any harmful substances when consuming reheated coffee. You can heat up coffee if necessary, but it is important to consider that the longer cold coffee is aged, the less beneficial substances you can get from it. Moreover, the aroma and taste become noticeably weaker. It is better to heat it on the stove; a microwave oven is not suitable for this purpose.
You can store coffee in a thermos at a temperature of at least 80 degrees.
To make the coffee cool more slowly, you should always pour more than half, this way you can preserve its taste for a long time.
There are many options for making coffee with acorns. For colder seasons, the traditional version is suitable; for warmer seasons, the ice version is suitable. The choice of one recipe or another depends on the taste preferences of a particular person.
How to properly collect acorns for coffee
In order to make coffee from acorns, you need to collect the fruits in early autumn . A prerequisite for harvesting is a ripe, smooth, undamaged brown fruit.
It is necessary to collect only those acorns that were lying on the ground, or those that easily fall from the branches. Otherwise, the fruits are not ripe, which can negatively affect health. It is also worth paying attention to the acorn cap; if it is absent, the fruit may be missing or rotten.
