If a leather jacket has lost its appearance, is frayed, or is simply out of fashion, do not throw it away. It's better to first learn how to remake a leather jacket into a modern and stylish one.

.

The problem of changing the appearance of clothing is very relevant. Firstly, because of fashion trends. It often happens that a new and fashionable thing looks hopelessly outdated already in the next season, so redoing it is a matter of not only saving money, but also meeting the latest trends. Secondly, fashion changes cyclically, and sometimes it’s enough just to update clothes a little to make it modern.

If your leather jacket has lost its appearance, is frayed, or is simply out of fashion, don’t throw it away

As for leather jackets, this is a kind of classic: it is relevant in almost any season. Over time, the shape of the cut changes mainly. Therefore, sometimes it is enough just to learn how to transform a leather jacket into a fashionable one so that it corresponds to the latest trends. The result will be not only stylish, but also original. And, what’s especially nice, the probability of meeting another person wearing the same jacket tends to zero.

You just need to find out how to transform a leather jacket into a fashionable one so that it matches the latest trends

As for jackets, including those made of leather, they have a huge advantage over other types of clothing: it is quite easy to return them to their former luster. Leather jackets are durable, so even with long-term storage they do not lose much in appearance. Therefore, it is usually not difficult to repair them.

If all that has happened to the jacket during storage is a loss of color, then there is an easy way to transform an old leather jacket into a fashionable one - just paint it

If all that's happened to your jacket while in storage is color loss, then there's an easy way to transform an old leather jacket into a fashionable one - just dye it.

Important!

The easiest way to change the color is to soak the item in bleach for a while.

As a result, the jacket will look more modern. Such things are best suited to the boho style. It involves a combination of things that at first glance seem completely dissimilar to each other. For example, such leather jackets can be worn with light summer dresses.

Often, after long wear, various defects appear on the jacket. The easiest way is to paint them with special paint. First of all, the surface of the leather must be degreased and the item should be allowed to dry thoroughly. This will take about 2-3 hours. Afterwards, apply the first layer of paint with a brush. After complete drying, apply a second layer. Leave the jacket again until completely dry. This time it is better to wait longer, at least 12 hours, and only then apply a glossy or matte sealer. When it dries, the jacket looks like new again and is ready to wear.

In addition, there is a special paint for leather in aerosol form. The paint simply splashes onto the surface of the leather jacket. After drying, the item looks new again. The whole job takes no more than an hour. But when painting, you need to be careful: work only with gloves so as not to paint your hands at the same time, and cover the work surface with newspapers.

Rubber gloves are used to paint a leather jacket

In addition to painting, there are many more ways to remake a leather jacket at home, and their number is limited only by your imagination. For example, combinations of leather with various fabrics, such as cashmere or drape, are now in fashion. In this case, the condition of the material does not matter, because damaged areas can be easily replaced with fabric inserts.

Decorative elements will also transform the look of the jacket: a bright zipper, metal rivets, bright appliqués or contrasting seams.

How to use jewelry to turn an office jacket into the best thing of the season

We don’t part with our jacket all year long: in the summer it serves as outerwear, and in the winter it becomes an indispensable item in layering games. The gray jacket occupies a special place in this kaleidoscope, brutal, strict and even invisible, if necessary. Voluminous, as if from a man's shoulder, elongated, like a light coat, or feminine, fitted like a jacket - each of us chooses our own model. And one question still remains open: what to wear down, under the jacket? You won’t have to look for an answer for long: fashion bloggers have left us plenty of options for inspiration. From your ex-boyfriend's white T-shirt or sexy lace-up bodysuit to more sophisticated options with vests and even coats, which are presented exclusively at fashion weeks. By the way, the “nothing but jewelry” option is also present. A gray jacket, as they say, can withstand anything!

We will dwell on the latter option in more detail, since the Burberry Prorsum brand, renewed under the wing of Riccardo Tisci, gives us even more fashionable information on the topic of combinations of a gray jacket and jewelry. The latest collection features several models of gray jackets, which are literally transformed in the presence of jewelry. In the first case, these are earrings with transparent crystals to match the light gray jacket, in the second and third - gilded necklaces with a pearl as a pendant.

How to alter a leather jacket?

Appearance problems do not always come down only to deterioration in the quality of the material itself. Over time, the appearance of products changes significantly. For example, loose leather jackets were once popular. Currently, such leather jackets, even if they have not lost their appearance, will look out of place, since fashionistas prefer more fitted and elegant models. Therefore, a good way to get a new thing is to alter an old leather jacket. We'll tell you how to remake a leather jacket.

To make sewing easier, you need to break the seams with a wooden hammer - then they will become thinner and easier to work with.

First of all, you need to make sure that you have everything you need for work at hand:

  • product (in this case, a leather jacket);
  • hammer, preferably wooden;

Special needle for leather

  • special needle for leather;
  • interlining;

Interlining is used when repairing a leather jacket

  • scissors;
  • roller knife;

A roller knife is used to repair a leather jacket.

  • large sheet of paper;
  • pencil or pen;
  • tailor's chalk (for transferring the pattern to the material).

Before altering your jacket, you should decide on the desired model. You can choose how to remake a leather jacket based on photos in fashion magazines. This method of selection is convenient because such publications already have ready-made patterns for different sizes of clothes. Then you can do without designing the parts of the jacket - just copy the finished parts onto paper.

Some jackets have taped seams, so to unravel them, you will first have to iron them through gauze.

If the size of the jacket allows, the parts can be transferred directly onto it, otherwise you first need to cut out all the parts and only then transfer the patterns, also leaving small seam allowances. Some jackets have taped seams, so to unravel them, you will first have to iron them through gauze.

When all the parts are ready, you first need to prepare the skin. It is recommended to treat it with a solution of glycerin and salt (1:1 ratio), stretch it on a flat surface, secure it with pins and let it dry. Afterwards, iron thoroughly.

The pattern pieces should be placed on the inside of the material and secured with safety pins to prevent them from moving. Then trace the patterns along the contour with a ballpoint pen or pencil; you can also use white or colored tailor’s chalk or a piece of dry soap. It is worth noting that when tracing patterns, you need to leave a seam allowance on the sides - 1-1.5 cm. Leave 0.5 cm for the sleeve caps and neckline. More should be left for the hem at the bottom, up to 4 cm.

There is probably no woman who hasn’t thought about how great it would be to decorate some old items from her wardrobe so that they really find a second life! Svetlana Fadeeva has an absolutely magical idea that many will surely like, and with the help of a step-by-step master class with photos you can decorate your favorite thing yourself so that it, as they say, sparkles with new colors!

We have a Loden jacket that has not yet been worn out, but is rather dull and boring (Loden is generally difficult to “kill”, and one cannot raise one’s hand to throw away a “good thing”). Therefore, there was nothing to lose: if it works out, it will still serve, and if not, then it will be thrown out with a clear conscience :)

Necessary materials:

- wool felt 1-1.5 mm;

- floss;

- filler;

- scissors;

- needle;

- hands.

The hardest part is finding felt in the color of the jacket.:) It didn’t work out for me, but if only it could stop me. By mixing wool dyes we get the desired shade.

On paper we make a primitive sketch of our bird and apply it to the shoulder of the jacket, if necessary, we adjust the pattern:

We cut out our bird from felt, adding 3 mm to the hem (it’s easier to cut it in one piece, but if you, like me, are limited in the size of a piece of felt, then you can break the pattern into parts).

We pin the felt and bend it and sew it with a hidden seam to the jacket, leaving the lower edges of the wings and tail unsewn:

We stuff and pinpoint the felt in several places on the wings and tail.

If the bird is cut out of several parts, then we mask the place of the seam by brushing it with coarse sandpaper.

Using a “back needle” stitch we sew the feathers on the wings:

You can go through the places of the recesses with a felting needle, or simply, when laying seams in these places, catch on the fabric of the jacket:

It was possible to stop at this stage, because... We’ve already got something like a trapunto, but stopping is the hardest thing :)

We embroider the beak and outline the eye:

And using a stem stitch or simply using separate stitches laid according to the growth of the feathers, we “draw” the cheeks and head:

Feathers on wings and back:

Abdomen and tail:

But now we force ourselves to stop :)

Such voluminous embroidery appliqués can be used to decorate felt bags and old (moth-eaten, but no less loved) coats and much, much more. :)

I really hope I wasn’t too intrusive and tiresome :)

Thanks everyone!

How to alter a leather jacket - connecting parts

Cut out all the details with sharp scissors. For this purpose, you can also use a circular knife, but then you need to place a sheet of thin cardboard under the material.

A circular knife is used to cut parts from leather

Before you remake a leather jacket with your own hands, all parts need to be secured with non-woven fabric. Since leather is a dense material, and it should not be pierced with a needle again to avoid damage, the details are not swept away. To connect, use paper clips, thin tape or adhesive stick.

To make it easier to work with the material, you first need to prepare the machine. First of all, you will need to install a special foot (roller or Teflon) and a strong needle. If there is no special foot, sewing will be difficult. You can make the task easier with the help of vegetable oil - apply it in a thin layer to the edge of the product using a cotton swab. Then the foot “passes” through the fabric better.

Leather is a dense material, and you should not pierce it with a needle again, so as not to damage it

On a note!

For sewing leather products, it is recommended to use a triangular thick needle.

The optimal stitch size is 3 mm.

Then it is recommended to prepare the material itself. Since the leather is quite dense, difficulties often arise when sewing on a machine, especially a regular manual one, rather than an electric one. To make sewing easier, you need to break the seams with a wooden hammer - then they will become thinner and easier to work with.

Join the edges of the seam allowances using rubber glue

Machine stitch over the seam. You need to work carefully, making sure that the material does not wrinkle or tighten.

When the work is finished, the product can be turned inside out. Straighten the seams and iron them. Connect the edges of the seam allowances using rubber glue. Once it's dry, you can start connecting the other parts of the jacket. Lastly, the sleeves are sewn in and the jacket collar is sewn on.

After this, you can move on to smaller details: sew in a zipper, cut and process holes for buttons, and sew on the buttons themselves. Then glue the bottom of the jacket so that the upper part of the hem remains free.

Before you remake an old leather jacket, you need to stock up on lining material. You need to cut out parts from it using the same pattern as for the jacket itself. Sew the lining, attach to the base, hem the lower part of the sleeves, fronts and back.

When working with old things, the main thing is not to be afraid to experiment, including taking radical measures. It often happens that some parts of a thing are so worn out that there is no way to “patch” them even with the help of liquid leather or special paint. Then you can try an original solution - convert a leather jacket into a vest.

You can update your wardrobe in a variety of ways. This time the reader will be presented with 15 amazing ideas on how to do this for mere pennies.
