Spring trend: soft pink April 03, 2021, 00:19 | Rita Zheleznyakova

Tired of the gray landscape and fifty shades of gray in your winter wardrobe, you can switch to light spring shades, for example, soft pink.

Pink is one of the most feminine shades and can be sophisticated and even intellectual. Today's trend is not "legally blonde" pink, but the one Audrey Hepburn chose when she said, "I believe in pink."

The spring-summer collections 2021 prove that this shade, delicate and at the same time strict, can be worn every day.

The meaning of pink in clothing and psychology

The color pink is rooted in the combination of red and white and is popular among young girls. Psychologists believe that such a palette promotes friendliness and goodwill, pacifies and reduces internal aggression. It is also a symbol of freedom and love.

Girls who choose this option are often romantic and dreamy individuals who give goodness to the world. They have a creative touch, but due to their sensitivity they can get upset over trifles.

This color is a symbol of motherhood. Since it is based on love, it is believed that the softer the shade of pink, the stronger the feelings implied.

Pink evening dresses

It is impossible to imagine a more romantic outfit than a pink evening dress. Provided the cut and fabric are chosen correctly, this image looks feminine and gentle. It is worth noting that it is better to choose a dress of this color for young girls. Shades of pink represent innocence, purity and virtue.

This outfit is a great choice for a prom or social event. A delicate pink wedding dress is a wonderful solution for a gentle and romantic bride.

However, older women should never deny themselves the pleasure of showing off in a pink dress. This will help them look much younger and more attractive. Only the shades need to be chosen more subdued, with admixtures of beige or gray.

Who suits pink based on their appearance color type?

Regardless of the lady's appearance type, this color deserves to appear in the wardrobe. The main thing is to choose your suitable shade. When choosing colors for “winter”, you need to pay attention to bright and catchy palettes that will highlight your appearance. You should choose pure options, without additional impurities. From the pink range the following are suitable:

  • fuchsia;
  • hot pink;
  • coral;
  • crimson;
  • magenta.

Girls of the “spring” type can easily choose cold shades, but warm and dark ones are not recommended. Ladies of this color type will fit well into the wardrobe:

  • purple;
  • crimson;
  • flamingo;
  • light pink;
  • salmon.

The appearance of the “summer” color type is completely different. It is recommended to choose a variety of complex options:

  • grey-pink;
  • lilac;
  • lingonberry;
  • crimson.

Some of the brightest ladies are representatives of the “autumn” color type. Palettes in clothes can greatly change their appearance, so you should experiment carefully. You should choose colors that suit you. From this palette it is:

  • flamingo;
  • salmon;
  • with a gray tint.

Interior

Pink is used in interior decoration:

  1. When decorating a room for a little girl, the color of childish lightness, purity and happiness will give the child a sense of security.
  2. If you are transforming your office, it is best to opt for pastel colors. This decision will have a beneficial effect on work productivity: unnecessary emotions and irritation will go away, you will focus on the work process.
  3. Too much pink in one space increases anxiety and leads to physical illness. It is better to use in tandem with white for relaxation, restoration of strength and health.
  4. Suitable for small rooms - it will make it visually wider.
  5. A pink-style room is a great solution for a teenage girl. It will create lightness, romance, airiness, freedom, in the spirit of youth and adventurism.
  6. Both warm and cold shades are suitable for the living room interior.
  7. You won't find a better shade for opening a women's cafe or club. It helps to feel protected and safe, which has a positive effect on the number of visitors.
  8. Not recommended for use in bedroom decoration. Men don't like to be in a pink space all the time, it irritates and makes them feel out of place, which results in loss of sleep and deterioration in relationships. To update your bedroom, choose a burgundy shade combined with white or gold.
  9. Too much color in offices has a negative impact on employee productivity, even in an all-female team.
  10. The combination of pink and blue is used in the design of bathrooms.

Basic popular shades of pink

Has many options that are simply unique. It is incredibly difficult to choose a favorite, but some of them still evoke special sympathy among modern fashionistas and designers.

The color “quartz” is at the height of fashion, reminiscent of roses in their most natural, classic form, covered with morning frost. With black and white it makes an interesting combination of colors in clothes.

A flashy fashionable shade - peacock pink. Designers love it and confidently present it in their collections, combining it in interesting ways. This is an ultra-stylish shade that has captivated many ladies.

“Peacock” goes well with clothes that have a geometric print, such as stripes or checks.

An unusual and slightly daring shade of “crocus”, just as fashionable, is not afraid of bright combinations, for example, with electric blue, yellow, blue, green.

Pale pink

The soft and very muted shade has a minimal amount of red, conveying calm. Good for a light walking look. This shimmer will emphasize the youth and elegance of the person who decided to wear it.

You can combine it with sky blue, white, soft yellow. You can also easily create a business look with it if you add a light pink shade to a gray suit. Ash pink belongs to this range; it is often used in fashionable hair coloring.

Dusty pink

This color in clothing is associated with a dusty rose. It is also called dirty or gray-pink because it contains inclusions of gray. Subdued, it’s hard to call it simple, but as an evening dress it looks chic and has an expensive look. Can be used in everyday looks. It is recommended to select combinations for the color of dusty rose in clothes with similar complex palettes.

Salmon

It is based on orange along with pink with the addition of yellow. It will go perfectly with cold palettes, as it has a warm backlight. When choosing what to pair it with, it is better to pay attention to purple, turquoise, and blue. Cocktail dresses in orange and pink look feminine and attractive.

Flamingo

A very extraordinary shade that can make the girl who chose it the object of attention of others. This color has neon pink splashes that are very eye-catching. In clothing, such a bright option is always individual and unique. It is complemented by black, white and pastel colors.

Crimson

Just like the name, the color itself looks rich and appetizing. This shade is remarkable because it suits girls with a bright appearance, emphasizing their advantages. This option is not suitable for red-haired ladies. If you don’t know what to combine pink with, you can make the look vulgar.

This pink shade in clothes is combined with beige, black, white and gray. The more color options you add to one look, the more tasteless it will look.

Fuchsia

Incredibly bold and vibrant color. A very stylish, amazingly beautiful duet is obtained with black and blue. This pink suits those who have a perfectly dark skin tone. It is believed that this option was created only for young girls, but older women can also add bright accents to their clothes with its help, the main thing is to use moderation.

Coral

The pleasant combination of orange and pink is refreshing and youthful. A very attractive shade of pink, coral, looks wonderful on tanned skin. It can be confidently combined with calm shades. White and coral pink complement each other perfectly and provide refreshing options for summer looks. No matter how much you like the color, you shouldn’t create the whole image only from it. Combinations with other colors look more stylish.

Magenta

Formed when red and blue combine in equal quantities. This option is bright and challenging to the world, decisive and incredibly persistent. Stylists advise being very careful with it; even a small amount of it in an outfit can steal all the attention.

Magenta looks great with black and dark gray. Its great advantage is that it goes well with all fabrics and textures.

To draw attention to certain parts of the body, you need to wear things with magenta shades. If you need to hide problem areas, then you need to abandon it.

Sexy, funny, bold / pink in movies

Add to Favorites The color pink suits all women, but up to 5 years old, the famous fashion historian and collector Alexander Vasiliev once said (quote from memory). Pink is the color of Barbie and little girls, not grown women and, God forbid, men, or not? Let's see what images cinema dictates to us?

Now in fashion, girls.. only pink, in fashion this summer Only pink on both sides of the world. To hell with the red, out with the blue. Green? It is no longer in fashion. Forget wine and roses... Only pink is in fashion now. Only pink! Forget black from Dior. Only pink. “Funny face”

If you want a little history of pink fashion, we recommend the exhibition at the Museum at FIT in New York. In Michel Pastoureau's book “Red. History of Color" there is also a chapter on pink. The fashion for it came with the advent of good dyes, at the end of the 14th-15th centuries, and reached its apogee in the middle of the 18th century. Then it was worn by both men and women. And it was in the gallant age that this color received its modern name in European languages - pink, rose, rosa.

Marilyn Monroe. Sexy pink.

Marilyn Monroe could be sexy in anything, especially with the help of costume designers. In the noir Niagara (1952, directed by Henry Hathaway, costume designer Dorothy Jeakins), her character Rose arrives at a party in a tight fuchsia dress.

Ray: Why don't you wear the same dresses? Polly: To wear this, you need to make plans from the age of thirteen. "Niagara"

Judging by the surviving photographs, Jeakins tried red, which was sexier at first glance, but it was fuchsia that made the actress’s skin radiant.

Having learned about the actress’s small wardrobe and her financial difficulties (Marilyn spent money on studying acting and dancing), the director gave her this dress, and she often “walked” it. This model, playful, summery, and very modern, proved so popular that copies were sold in American stores throughout the 1950s.

In the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953, directed by Howard Hawks), Marilyn made a splash with the number “Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend.”

At first, costume designer William Travilla wanted to dress the actress in a nude mesh jumpsuit and rhinestone bikini with a black velvet train, so that she would look like a “giant necklace.” But Playboy very inappropriately published old nude photographs of Monroe, and the bosses of the film studio decided that it was not worth teasing the geese, that is, the puritanical American public, telling Travilla to “cover up” Marilyn. As a result, the artist came up with a pale pink floor-length bustier dress for the actress with a huge black and pink bow at the back, a belt, long gloves and shoes to match the dress. The dress was made from satin fabric with a matte “peau d'ange” (angel skin) finish, to which Travilla glued felt to make the material more dense, “cardboard”, so that it would hold its shape well. This black “lining” is clearly visible in the cut from behind during Marilyn’s dance. The bow was stuffed with ostrich feathers and horsehair. As a result, the outfit turned out to be quite heavy. Travilla made two copies of the dress: the episode took a long time to film and the hem of the dress got very dirty, so Marilyn changed clothes as she got “dirty.”

In 2010, the outfit was sold at auction for $319 thousand, and, according to some, it was not the original dress from the shoot, but a dress from rehearsals or promotional shoots, since it did not have a felt lining, but had all the necessary labels studios.

Grace Kelly. Elegant pink.

A completely different look was created for Grace Kelly by Edith Head, the costume designer for Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief (1955). Emphatically feminine, elegant, without a hint of challenge, the ensemble corresponds to the standard Hitchcock blonde Frances, a correct, smart girl from a rich family. For this episode, Head wanted to dress Grace in trousers, but the actress insisted on a flowy pleated skirt to make the look more attractive.

Tatiana Piletskaya. Anti-Soviet pink

In the film “Different Fates” (1956) by Leonid Lukov (costume designer Mariam Bykhovskaya), the spoiled beauty Tanya, performed by Tatyana Piletskaya, differs in appearance from her peers not only in the absence of any desire to leave Moscow and raise virgin soil, but also in her interesting wardrobe. Diverse in color and style, it unambiguously tells the viewer that Tanya is only interested in the external side of life, well-being, in contrast to the correct heroines, like Sonya and Vera, dressed in pale calico and gray suits. In the finale, at the moment of reckoning, Tanya is dressed in a pink sheath dress of a complex cut with a black collar and a bow on the hips. This elegant look is complemented by a small black handbag and gloves - Tanya seems to be a Dior fashion model during the Moscow tour in 1959, only a hat is missing to complete the look.

Audrey Hepburn. Doll pink.

Four of Hepburn's 1960s paintings feature memorable images in pink (three of them are discussed in great detail in our article The Princess in Pink: Audrey Hepburn).

Holly Golightly's pink suit from the film Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) by Blake Edwards is the work of French designer Hubert de Givenchy. The silk cocktail dress is embroidered with sequins and small yellow tassels. The pink bow emphasizes the thin waist, and the pleats at the hips make the silhouette more feminine. Holly paired it with a light satin short sleeve coat and matching shoes. Her jewelry includes a sparkly baby pink tiara and earrings, and her accessories include a shiny white clutch and a banderilla (multi-colored harpoon spears that are stuck into the back of a bull during a bullfight to “cheer up” him). Holly's carefree outfit brings out the drama of the scene especially poignantly.

In 2007, the dress was sold at Christie's for $192,000, six times its pre-sale estimate. As with Monroe's pink dress, the story is also murky. The legend for the lot says that the dress is not marked, and auction specialists suggested that the dress was designed at the last minute and not by Givenchy, but by Edith Head, who dressed the rest of the cast of the film, and also selected “everyday” outfits for Audrey-Holly. But at the same time, at the latest exhibitions dedicated to the French couturier, both the costume from the film and Givenchy’s sketch were exhibited. However, Edith Head always duplicated with sketches all of Givenchy’s outfits for this and other Hepburn films.

In the musical My Fair Lady (1964) by George Cukor, based on Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion (1913), the costumes were designed by Cecil Beaton. A delicate dress with a huge flower, emphasizing the fragility of Audrey Hepburn, is an interesting choice for the final episodes. Eliza tells Higgins that she is strong enough to live without him, but then returns to Wimpole Street. She looks not like the flower girl she wanted to become, not like the duchess Higgins wanted her to be, but like a delicate hothouse flower. This Eliza is not waiting for Freddy and the original ending of the Show, but who she will become with Higgins is also not entirely clear.

In the rather weak romantic comedy Paris When It's Hot (1964) by Richard Quine, Audrey is a walking advertisement for Givenchy. Delicate pastel colors: a light green suit, a blue nightie, white and orange dresses and, of course, the final pink dress - everything is so cute and marshmallowy that the sweetness on the screen can make the audience’s butt stick together. Audrey plays the typist Gabi, whose soft and sweet personality perfectly matches these sugary outfits.

Looking at Audrey’s long pink dress in the film “Two for the Road” (1967) by Stanley Donen, it seems that this is also Givenchy, but no. Joanna is wearing Audrey, a creation of the fashionable British house Bellville et Cie (since 1970 - Bellville Sassoon), which specialized in dresses for debutantes, brides and outfits for the aristocracy and royal family.

Shirley MacLaine. Glamorous pink.

In the musical black comedy "Keep It Up" (1964) by J. Lee Thompson, Shirley MacLaine's character Louise brings her husbands meteoric success and quick death. Her penultimate fourth husband, comedian Pinky (Gene Kelly), immediately finds himself in great demand in Hollywood and Louise arrives at his premiere in a pink limousine, all dressed in pink from her wig to her shoes. Under the pink fur coat is a floor-length empire-style dress with a brooch on the chest, earrings with pink crystals in her ears, even her hair is pink.

The costumes in the film (Shirley has more than 70 outfit changes) cost $500,000, and the jewelry rented from Harry Winston cost $3.5 million. “But I don’t think it was really Shirley MacLaine,” Edith Head quipped. “She used to hate fittings.” She was always a little impudent, a little wary, running away quickly. But for this picture, she dutifully stood at the difficult and complex fittings of 73 costumes, not just politely, but with great enthusiasm.”

Edith Head was nominated for an Oscar for this film, but lost to Cecil Beaton and his Fair Lady.

Molly Ringwald. Intelligent pink

In the cult youth film “The Breakfast Club” (1985), Molly Ringwald plays the “princess” of the school, the daughter of wealthy parents, Claire. Costume designer Marilyn Vance chose a laconic and stylish costume for her: a brown leather jacket and skirt, matching high boots and a soft pink shirt.

Molly played the opposite character - a poor girl in a rich school - in her next film, “Pretty in Pink” (1986) by Howard Deutch, where the same Vance was the costume designer.

In “Cutie...” Molly plays a good girl, an excellent student from a poor, dysfunctional family (her father is slowly becoming an alcoholic after the death of his wife). Andy's highlight is her clothing style, she is different from all the other girls in the school (Vance was on duty at the school door, photographing schoolchildren on Polaroid, and the security even called the police). By the way, another outsider of the school, Ducky, who is in love with Andy, is just as radically different. His style was inspired by the British teddy boys of the 70s.

Ringwald says Vance adapted Molly's own style for Andy's wardrobe. It has a lot of vintage, retro, costume jewelry, and layers. It is assumed that the heroine shops at thrift stores and flea markets and “modifies” things to suit herself: ribbons in hats, embroidery on sweaters, asymmetrical earrings. Vance did the same, for example, in one of the scenes, a close-up of a pink cardigan is visible, to which small silver pendants are sewn. Almost all of Andy-Ringwald's looks include pink in one way or another. The actress says that after filming she took many of her character’s things for herself, except for her prom dress.

According to the script, Andi made it from her friend Iona's old prom dress and a dress her father bought her. Vance did the same, buying one dress (from her father) from a Mexican dress shop for Quinceañera (a girls' 15th birthday party in Latin America) and pairing it with another (from Iona) from a prom dress shop in downtown Los Angeles.

“I want to show that they can’t break me” Andy to his father about the decision to go to the ball, “Pretty in Pink”

“We put together unusual things that made this character realistic. She [Andy] had no money. But she had personality and acceptance, and I had to reflect that,” Vance says. According to her, Molly Ringwald hated the dress, and John Hughes asked Marilyn not to force the actress to wear it. But the artist managed to convince the director, insisting that Andy is an individual and cannot dress like other schoolgirls. Judge for yourself. Typical prom dresses are feminine and emphasize the bust and waist. And this dress in the form of an inverted triangle (a silhouette that Balenciaga invented in the 50s with his “envelope dress”) hides both the chest and the waist. It all screams that Andy is not like everyone else and is not looking for cheap popularity.

Last year, Ringwald wrote an article about the dress, confessing how much she hated it and how much she cried over it. How I hoped that the dress would be replaced due to the reshooting of the finale. How I dreamed of burning it in the backyard of the Paramount film studio. But in the end, after 30 years, watching it again, I realized that this was absolutely the right outfit for her character:

“And yet, although I didn’t think I would ever admit it, I was able to appreciate this dress: it is different from everything else and memorable, in the sense that there could not be a more beautiful option. I won't say that Andy might have a cool career in fashion, but at least she wasn't afraid to be different, a quality that I want to believe would help her in life. So now, when my daughter asks if I like the dress, I tell her, “Yes.” She smiles and says: “Me too! I love him." Molly Ringwald

Shari Headley. Wedding pink

In the comedy Coming to America (1988), John Landis's costume designer was his wife Deborah Nadoolman. He told her about the fictional African state of Zamunda: “You have to invent this whole world” and gave her 2 months to prepare. It’s good that Deborah was fascinated by African culture back in college, she even kept the magazines she bought about African art, and ended up making a cool and memorable mix.

The wedding dress for Lisa, Shari Headley's character, gave Deborah many sleepless nights. The white color was out because it didn’t go well with the dark skin of the groom, Eddie Murphy, and turned the actress into a giant marshmallow.

“Then I thought, ‘Oh my god. Damn it. [She will be] beautiful in pink. If I can just make it pink, it will be fabulous. I’ll make it pink,” Nedulman says in an interview. “Shari is naturally very elegant. I will dress her in pink, make a very tight and small bodice, like ballerinas. Look, Shari is the kind of actress who can pull off any look. She has such natural elegance. Looks a lot like Audrey Hepburn." The dress itself, by the way, is made of inexpensive fabric - nylon tulle. Deborah says that every year she receives emails from brides asking her to make similar dresses for them. “And every year for many years, I send them a copy of my original sketch, a photo of Shari in that dress, and I write to them, 'Good luck and God bless you.'”

Reese Witherspoon. Status pink

The films “Legally Blonde” (2001, dir. Robert Luketic) and “Legally Blonde 2” (2003, dir. Charles Herman-Wurmfeld) are about how Elena the Beautiful, that is, Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) turned into Elena the Wise and conquers Harvard and the harsh world of law. The costume designer for both films is Sophie de Rakoff (Read about one of the costumes from the film Legally Blonde in our article Bunnies in the Movies: Renee Zellweger vs Reese Witherspoon).

Sophie says: “The backstory is that Reese and I, and maybe the production designer, went to college sororities in downtown Los Angeles,” Sophie says. We knew we would need a signature color and we thought, “Do we really want pink? It's so obvious. He's too feminine. Maybe lavender? or blue? Or some other color? When we saw the sorority girls, we knew it had to be pink.” Obviously, the color pink indicates a certain status - it is chosen by beautiful, glamorous, sexy college students, “school queens,” etc. (remember pink Wednesdays in Mean Girls?). Elle Woods is one of them.

“As a future senator, I should marry Jackie, not Marilyn.” Warner Ale says at breakup

That is, pink is the color of Marilyn, not Jackie, a serious girl from a good family, a suitable wife for a politician. And Elle Woods triumphantly proves to him that beauty can be combined with intelligence, just as Jackie could wear pink in her time. At the end of the first film, she wears a dress of a modest classic design, which is revealed only by the color, and at the beginning of the second film, she wears a suit and pillbox hat in the style of Jackie Kennedy’s famous crimson suit. This is how Elle Woods transformed from Marilyn to Jackie, without changing her favorite color.

Emma Watson. Sweet sixteen pink

Compare the dresses of Andy from Pretty in Pink and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) at the Yule Ball during the Triwizard Tournament in the fourth film in the series - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) and feel the difference. Hermione has the right prom dress, which immediately shows that “the girl has matured” (Girl, you'll be a woman soon, but this is not a plot for Rowling's Universe).

"It was Emma's ball," says Mike Newell, the film's director. She arrives with Durmstrang champion Viktor Krum (Stanislav Janevski), and her friends Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Ron (Rupert Greene) look at her with their mouths open in surprise. Indeed, says Yani Temime, costume designer, “this is probably the first time we see Hermione in a dress, she always wears trousers. It turns out she has a waist and a feminine body.” Almost like indecent fan fiction in the “Hermione has changed a lot over the summer” genre.

“She was always at the top of her class. A tough girl who was friends with boys. And now she shows up at the ball, and she's wearing pink. People look at her as a girl, and a very beautiful one, which they had not noticed before. I didn't want her to look like she borrowed the dress from her mom or sister. This is a girlish, “sweet sixteen-year-old” dress,” says Temime (Hermione, however, is 14 in the film).

The girl’s look is complemented by earrings and hairpins in a high hairstyle in the shape of pink flowers, and black dancing shoes. Yani wanted the dress to softly fit the actress’s figure, flow and flutter beautifully during the dance. To prevent it from looking too simple, she added shadows, a transition from pink to purple, and added sharp details to the cut of the bodice, after all, Hermione is a witch. According to the artist’s plan, the dress was supposed to become “the dream of all girls and at the same time not slide into a banal Cinderella.”

The base of the dress was made of satin silk, and the cap sleeves and frills at the hem were made of gradient-dyed chiffon. The ruffles alone took 12 meters of fabric! They worked on the dress for 3 months. “We were changing things all the time,” says Yani Temime. “And Emma was very nervous.” She thought: “What will I wear?” But in the end we succeeded.” The actress admits that she was terribly afraid of ruining it, of spilling something on it. And during the shooting, when she was going down the stairs, she fell. But neither the actress nor the dress, fortunately, were harmed.

Hermione's everyday wardrobe in the film, by the way, is also full of pink; according to the artist, in the fogs of Scotland this color looks refreshing and is clearly visible. And by the way, Rowling’s girl’s dress was in the color “periwinkle-blue” - a shade of blue with a lilac undertone, like a periwinkle flower.

Imelda Staunton. creepy pink

Since the fifth series, the Potter series (“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”) has become very dark, gray and faded, and the bright color went to the villainess Dolores Umbridge, played superbly by Imelda Staunton.

In the books, J. K. Rowling emphasizes Dolores's painful passion for pink in clothes, sentimental style, and especially kittens (but not real, but drawn), which was taken into account by costume designer Jana Temime. Umbridge's dresses and suits create a rectangular (almost square) silhouette (in the book, Harry compares her to a toad), and fleecy, fluffy fabrics give her additional volume. Temime also used extra padding: “[Imelda Staunton] wanted to be thicker and we needed to make it bigger. She also wanted to have a very thick butt so she could walk like Daisy Duck. I started with light pink, and then as the film [Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix] progressed, I intensified the color, made it hotter, just as she became more and more hysterical. The last outfit is rich, hot pink." The canonical bow on the head was replaced by Margaret Thatcher's hairstyle. Stephen King called the book's Dolores Umbridge the best villain after Hannibal Lecter.

“You don’t have to be a child to remember the Truly Scary Teacher, who tormented us so much that we were afraid to go to school in the morning, and we leafed through the pages of the novel, partly in fervent hopes that she would get hers... but also in a growing fear that what else will she do?” Stephen King

Imelda Staunton was very afraid to overact so that her character would look comical and not scary. But in our opinion, she really is a creepy pink monster.

At the risk of never finishing, we want to give a few more images and move on to masculine pink.

Gwendoline Christie - Brienne of Tarth, Game of Thrones

Cybill Sheppard as Maddie Hayes, Moonlight Detective Agency

Baby - Jennifer Grey, Dirty Dancing

Tilda Swinton - Lady Ottoline Morrell, Wittgenstein

Nastastya Kinski - Jane Henderson, "Paris, Texas"

Fashionable, bold, masculine

What about men's pink? Until the 19th century, it appeared more than once in the wardrobes of fashionistas, and “traces” of this popularity can be found in various costume films.

For example, in the film adaptation of Twelfth Night (1955) by Jan Fried, Sir Andrew, played by Georgy Vitsin, wears a pink suit with cute bows. Well, okay, he’s a comical character, he’s allowed, but, on the other hand, Antonio (Sergei Lukyanov), quite a brutal character, Sebastian’s savior, is dressed in a pink shirt and bandana. The picture roughly corresponds to the 16th century. XVII centuries The film's costume designer is Alexey Danduryan.

In the later film adaptation by Jan Fried - “Don Cesar de Bazan” (1989, set in the 17th century), you can see many extras in pink shirts, pants and belts, both representing the common people and the aristocracy. The film itself is very bright and colorful. Costume designer Tatyana Ostrogorskaya dressed the Viscount (Mikhail Svetin) in a pale pink suit with lace.

In the 18th century, during the Rococo era, pink experienced a rare moment of glory, becoming a common color for both men's and women's suits of the aristocracy. In the film Dangerous Liaisons (1988), directed by Stephen Frears, the main characters Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont (Glenn Close and John Malkovich, respectively) both wear pink. The best proof that the man in pink can be incredibly dangerous and seductive, regardless of gender. Costume designer: James Acheson.

In the film “Marie Antoinette” (2005) by Sofia Coppola, Louis XVI (Jason Schwartzman), who in real life posed for portraits in a pink camisole, received only a pink satin vest. All the “pasta” pink went to Marie Antoinette (Kirsten Dunst) and her entourage. Costume designer Milena Canonero.

In the 20th century, the main “man in pink” was, of course, Jay Gatsby. In the novel by Francis Scott Fitzgerald, the color of his suit is specified more than once; moreover, it is he who contributes to the hero’s dubious reputation as a nouveau riche:

-About Gatsby? No, why. I told you: I made some inquiries about his past. “And it turned out that he studied at Oxford,” Jordan said helpfully. - In Oxford! Hell no! – He shrugged his shoulders. – A man who wears a pink suit!... – And yet. “Oxford, which is in New Mexico,” Tom snorted disdainfully. – Or somewhere else. “The Great Gatsby” (1925)

Pink, along with other not typically masculine colors, orange, coral, lavender, etc., entered the men's wardrobe only in the early 1920s, and, of course, was still too newfangled and bold for gentlemen from decent families with a good education and “old money” people like Tom and Daisy. Nick talks about Gatsby's pink suit - "a stupid foppish rag." Unraveling Fitzgerald’s color symbolism, we can assume that the pink suit speaks of the hero’s “rose-colored glasses” and his hopes for Daisy’s love.

It's funny that both costume designers for the famous film adaptations of The Great Gatsby in 1974 and 2013 received an Oscar and a Bafta for their work. In the early version of Jack Clayton, starring Robert Redford, Tioni V. Aldridge was in charge of costumes. Redford in a pink suit even made it onto the cover of GQ as a new trend. In Baz Luhrmann's film, Leonardo DiCaprio was dressed by the director's wife Catherine Martin. Gatsby-DiCaprio wore a pale pink striped suit.

Another man in pink is Sam Rothstein played by Robert De Niro in Casino (1995). Costume designers: John A. Dunn, Rita Rajek. In the film, Rothstein has a lot of appearances in soft, cool pink or apricot tones.

On the one hand, in some cases, costumes in light colors created a visual counterpoint to the cruelty of some scenes, on the other hand, they corresponded to the “truth of life.” De Niro and Rajek even went to Florida and met with a real ex-gangster, the prototype of the Rothstein image. We looked at his photo albums, his wardrobe, and even met the creator of his shirts to understand the character. “These characters were, for the most part, people from the bottom who were working their way up in gambling,” said John Dunn. “Appearance was more important than ability when it came to creating yourself.” Show-offs are worth more than money, in general. “As Rothstein's career in the gaming industry has progressed, his image has become increasingly vibrant,” says Rajek. “Although the loud linings of De Niro's suits were never visible on camera, it was important to me that an actor like him knew that they were in contact with his skin. No one else could wear such daring clothes without looking like a cartoon character. De Niro remained sexy and dangerous." Scorsese not only attended all the actors' fittings, but also watched how the costume looked in street light, how it reflected the light. He also participated in the daily morning ritual of choosing a ring and watch for Rothstein-De Niro. Rajek calls a pink sweater with a matching shirt one of her favorite looks. She recalls: “Marty [[Scorsese] told me, 'Let him wear an apricot suit at the very beginning of the film. We need the audience to immediately understand what they are about to see and decide whether to leave the cinema hall or stay.”

And you won’t surprise anyone with pink shirts/T-shirts in Western cinema. They are worn by fashionistas, rich people, spies, villains, assholes and good boys.

James Bond - Sean Connery, Thunderball

Thomas Crown - Steve McQueen, “The Thomas Crown Affair”

Danny - John Travolta, “Grease”

James Spader - Steph, “Pretty in Pink”

Alfie - Jude Law, "Handsome Alfie, or What Men Want."

“I'm quite a fashionista. Unfortunately, now you can’t express yourself very much at work. Anyway. Gucci. Summer Sale. Conservative, but it's not hard to spice it up. Here. What? No no. I know what you mean? But in the age of feminization of the stronger sex, it is stupid to be afraid of pink. Waste!"

Alfie.

Ethan - Rory Scovel, "Pretty Girl"

Still, pink is not the obvious choice. In one episode of Friends (season 8, episode 17, 2002), Ross (David Schwimmer) wants his “light salmon” shirt back and, naturally, finds himself in the stupid position of witnessing his new boyfriend her ex doesn’t want to wear it, thinking it’s feminine.

Maybe the new trend of floral prints and pink that has been going on in men's fashion in recent years will change this state of affairs. Let's see, but for dessert...

How to use pink in clothes

In clothing, it personifies the femininity, romance and lightness of a girl. It can be worn by all women and used both to create an everyday look and for a unique festive look.

As a base color

Not all shades are basic. It is believed that it was created to add rich colors to clothes, but does not serve as a base and should not be abused in creating a bow.

Some can still be classified as basic: dusty and pale in color, which do not attract unnecessary attention at all. Whatever options the duet comes with, the different palettes combine wonderfully, gently complementing each other.

As an additional color

The most correct solution is to use it as an additional one. Basic shades go well with pink in clothes. Pink perfectly complements black, gray, beige, white, blue.

Examples[[edit]h2>

Literature[[edit]h3>
  • Haruki Murakami, “No Brake Wonderland and the End of the World” - “fat girl in pink”, granddaughter of the old man whose order is carried out by the main character of “Wonderland”. Her love for the color pink is perhaps her most striking characteristic.
  • J. Rowling: “The Casual Vacancy” - Crystal is buried in a pink coffin, which Sukhvinder chose, knowing about her tastes.
  • Harry Potter: Creepy Roleplaying Trope. The sadistic scoundrel Dolores Umbridge retained this girlish tendency (plus the habit of wearing an infantile bow in her hair) until a very, very mature age, which seems to hint: this lady has a problem with her brain.

  • Pinkalicious - Even the protagonist's name, Pinkalicious Pinkerton, suggests what her favorite color is.
  • Katya Matyushkina, the Trixie-Fixie series is Lita’s favorite color.
  • Flat world. Adora Belle Kindheart points out to Ponder Toups a very important fact about the Chest of Curiosities: “You know it wasn’t built for a girl between the ages of four and, uh, eleven, or herself... There’s no pink. Believe me. No girl at that age can do without pink.”
  • Cinema[[edit]h3>
    • "Legally Blonde" and "Legally Blonde 2" - Elle Woods only wears pink clothes, even her underwear is pink. And he even dresses his dog Giant in pink suits. No, she is not a painted fool with a plastic brain, but the president of the university women's club and subsequently a successful lawyer. It's just that pink is her weakness.
    • “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” - one character wanted to buy his mother a pink car like Elvis Presley’s.
    • The High School Musical trilogy and the spin-off Sharpay's Excellent Adventure - Sharpay Evans.
    • "Descendants" - Princesses in Auradon love pink. Highlighted by Mel: “ I'm not going to a boarding school full of princesses in pink!
      " If we talk about specific characters, Audrey loves pink. The irony of fate is that on her first date with Ben, Mel wears a dress of exactly that color.

  • "Batman Returns" by T. Burton - Selina Kyle has her entire apartment decorated in pink. After falling from the window, “turning” into a Cat, she tries to remove all the pink color.
  • “Home Alone 5” - Alexis wants not just a tablet, but a pink one
    . Her smartphone is also pink.
  • 2 Fast 2 Furious: The race involves four drivers - three men and a woman. Driving a pink convertible.
  • “K-12”, a film by singer Melanie Martinez based on her album of the same name - everything here is all pink and doll-like! Clothes, furniture, houses, cars, the main character's room, her school... Only this turns out to be the most severe subversion. Pink in the film is an terribly ominous color and hides the real unsightly picture of what is happening: the protagonist’s mother drinks constantly, the school is a glamorous authoritarian cesspool with corrupt staff, the students are brainwashed, and they themselves are moral monsters.
  • TV series[[edit]h3>
    • "Lazy" - Stephanie. Pedal to the metal: she loves the color pink so much that her clothes, things and even her hair are pink.
    • “Daddy's Daughters” - Masha, of course, loves pink. Once Dasha called her “a brunette with pink brains.”
    • Power rangers - the pink ranger is always a girl. The Mystic Force season played out ironically. Vida Rokka, although she is a pink Ranger, does not like the color pink. Throughout the season, several strands of her hair are dyed pink, and in the finale, she dyes all her hair pink.
    • In the original “Super Sentai” it’s the same, but in some cases a guy can become a pink ranger: the Gokaijers (space pirates) in the full-length film used the keys of the pink rangers, the Tokkujers (trains) exchange colors, and the Patrangers (policemen) changed their gender in one episode .

  • “Happy Together” - in one of the episodes, Dasha decorated her toilet in pink.
  • “Dance Fever” - Tinka Hessenheffer has already had an artsy taste in clothes, and for prom she wore a luxurious pink dress with a bell-shaped skirt. True, the closer she got to the photo platform with Rocky and Sisi, the more the dress decreased in volume.

    • "Ralph" - zigzag. The “girly” game “Sweet Fast and the Furious” is almost entirely done in a sickly pink color. However, to Ralph's snide question about the interior of the throne room, King Candy sharply replies that it is flesh-
      colored.
      Although in fact the throne room was designed for the young princess Vannellope von Cupcake, who was erased from the game code by King Candy (aka the racer Turbo who escaped from his game)
      .
      By the way, Vannellope

      did not like the fluffy pink dress that she received after
      the game reboot

    . Steven owns her stone and doesn't mind wearing pink, as he himself has some stereotypical feminine traits in his behavior.

  • Combination with other colors

    Pink color in clothes is not universal; what it goes with, you need to decide in advance. A skillful combination of it can make you a queen and turn interested glances to a stylish look. If you choose the wrong duo, the outfit can be completely ruined and you won’t look your best in it.

    This shade in large quantities is not recommended for older women; it can make the image look ridiculous and inappropriate.

    Successful combinations

    The combination with white is the simplest, but always winning. This option creates tenderness and spring lightness. The amount of one and the other in the onion is not of fundamental importance. The combination with black looks very impressive both for creating an office look and for city walks.

    Most shades from this palette can be combined with brown. With a very light shade, the outfit will have a formal and elegant character. Beige is very contradictory; it should be complemented with soft tones to emphasize aristocracy.

    It is very easy to combine clothes with blue, light blue, and green. It turns out a natural complement to each other, very light and sensual. Suitable for relaxation, walks, social events.

    What not to combine with

    One of the dangerous combinations is with red. Many shades do not get along with such a poisonous accent. It is better to experiment carefully. Bright yellow in combination with our color looks very childish, but if its saturation is lower, you will get a nice duo.

    The most unsuitable are very bright and juicy greens. This range is difficult to perceive by the eye. The combination with other colors depends on the shade; each has its own “friends” and “enemies” colors.

    Pink accessories and shoes

    Additional elements in the image play an important role to make the look complete and interesting. Accessories can also be of this palette, but it all depends on the main shade in the set. The main thing is not to go overboard with additional accents, adhering to appropriate proportions.

    Both accessories and shoes look very interesting in such a beautiful color. They will be most suitable for summer and spring bows. A cocktail dress of a soft delicate color will be complemented in the best way by the same pumps, creating a very delicate and stylish set.

    Stylish pink lookbook

    Fashionable pink is suitable for creating an office style. By choosing a dark blue knee-length dress with beige shoes and adding an accent of lightness in the form of a quartz jacket, you will get a business-like and at the same time feminine outfit.

    A stylish everyday look can be achieved by adding a raspberry-colored shirt to rich blue jeans and putting on a jacket in a delicate shade on top. White sneakers or bright heels will suit this option. The most romantic evening look is obtained in the color of powder or sakura. It can also be a floor-length dress in a pale color and nude pumps.

    This option can and should be worn by all ladies. The main thing is to find your unique color, which will become a highlight in your wardrobe. Girls who want to be light and airy choose this option that has not gone out of fashion for a long time, but pleases with more and more interesting combinations and ebbs.

    The color of tenderness, love and sublimity is simply created for feminine ladies. There is no need to be afraid of new shades and combinations in clothes, they are all intended for experimentation. By combining colors, styles, adding unusual accessories and stylish shoes, you can create a completely new look, and perhaps radically change your style. Achieving the perfect result is incredibly easy. You need to cast aside all fears and correctly combine this amazing shade with others.
