Ani Lorak: “I started my life from scratch”

Ani Lorak is a real diva of our show business. She is not only one of the most sought-after singers who delights millions of her fans. Her shows are recognized as the best and are sold out all over the world, and the singer’s tour schedule is scheduled for the year ahead! It is always easy and pleasant to communicate with Ani Lorak, and I have long been captivated by her fantastic charm. Lately there have been a lot of rumors and gossip around Anya - they are connected primarily with changes in her personal life. The singer herself remained silent for a long time and today for the first time agreed to tell me about what was really happening.

You are literally glowing with happiness!

There is such a thing. (Laughs.) Finally, Vadim, I had a reassessment of values. Before, I’ll be honest, I only had work, work, and that’s my main priority. I justified myself by saying that I was born an artist, a singer, and I had to work hard. Of course, there is a family, and it occupies an important part of my life, but work... And today I say differently: first of all, I am a woman, a mother. There have been a lot of changes. You can say that I started life from scratch.

Did this happen after you divorced your husband?

(Pause.) The divorce was painful. I don't believe it when someone says that the divorce was pleasant or easy. Any divorce is a tragedy: it is painful, it is sad, it is... disappointment. Yes, you are disappointed...

...in a loved one.

In a loved one. What could be more painful than this, when just recently you believed and knew that you had a reliable shoulder next to you. Of course, nothing happens like that (snaps fingers), overnight. It all starts quietly, creeps in gradually, but I’m an optimist, I tried to steer until the last minute and convinced myself that everything would be fine, that everything would work out. After all, many families live like this.

How "so"?

Hoping for the best. In tolerance, with faith in a bright future and so on. Then, there is always a choice when a person comes to his senses and says “I’m sorry.” A simple word - and you understand that there are two ways out: either you forgive and again invent an illusion for yourself and live in it, or you say: “No, I’m not ready, because I deserve more.”

I believe that any woman deserves decent treatment from a man.

Did you have any hesitations in this sense?

At some point there were. After all, we lived with our ex-husband for 14 years.

It's a lot.

This is a lot, a whole life. There were real feelings. Certainly, when I made the decision to connect my life with this person, I did not think that I would ever find myself in such a situation.

How did your daughter accept your divorce?

I prepared Sofia, told her that adults have situations where they live together, and then it turns out that they do not agree on some important things, characters, or something else. In addition, she witnessed our scenes, the showdown.

Did Sofia say anything to you about this?

She spoke. Sofia is 8 years old and already understands a lot. I explained that she would always have a mom and dad who would love her, that nothing would change in her life. By and large, my ex-husband participated so little in her upbringing; she doesn’t have such memories that he was right next to her all the time. Dad was like a guest at the holiday - today he continues to appear.

Does the daughter have a sincere relationship with her father or have they become different?

Of course, sincere. That's how it should be. No matter what I personally feel, no matter how worried I am, it should not in any way affect my daughter, her psyche. But for her own health and development, she must see the correct attitude of a man towards a woman.

Do you support her father’s authority?

This must be done. The relationship between two people is only their world; a child should not suffer from it. In general, to be honest, I don’t want to discuss how everything was with us - it’s already the past, it’s behind us. Today I want to talk about the future, or rather, about the present and the future, because I’m already picturing it for myself.

This is wonderful! Tell me, did new feelings arise when all the dots were completed or earlier?

Apparently, guardian angels are protecting me, because it seemed that I was already flying from the mountain, from a high-rise building down, when a man appeared who extended his hand to me. It was just friendship and communication between two souls, just understanding and support, admiration, respect and love - in general, everything that a woman should receive from a man.

I know that your boyfriend's name is Yegor. When and where did you meet him?

We met at the studio while recording an anthem for the MUZ-TV channel two or three years ago. Egor is a sound producer. He is the author and producer of many songs by Mota, Yegor Creed and other artists. So, I showed up at the studio and was met by a nice guy. When we recorded the song, it turned out that we were both from Ukraine and that we had some mutual friends. And suddenly he says to me: “I have a song, listen. You can sing it with Mot.”

Is this a Sopranos song?

Yes. I said that I’m not ready for duets yet. In fact, I didn’t yet know who Mot was, I wasn’t familiar with this new music. But Yegor insisted, he was confident of success, he spoke about it with such enthusiasm. He was so in love with this music, with what he did, such a charismatic young man. Anyway, he somehow convinced me. And now I’m already recording a demo with Mot. After some time, this song wins all the awards and becomes the most played. The success is incredible.

Can you imagine what musical flair Yegor has!

Here! I told him: “How did you feel that I should sing this song with Mot, why not some other singer?” He replied that as soon as an offer appeared from the Black Star company regarding this track, he immediately had my image in mind. True, after this recording we got lost and didn’t communicate anymore.

This often happens: a work situation arises, and then it ends.

Yes. I remember that after some time I thought: it would be great to meet him again and work with him. I dialed him, and Yegor told me that he didn’t have time because he was finishing Yegor Creed’s album.

Offended, of course?

Well... I was offended. I was sure that everyone would be “happy” to work with me (smiles), but here... In general, I got into creativity, recorded a number of successful songs, several duets. But after some time (probably a year and a half later), I, as a musician, again wanted something new, and I decided to contact Egor again, only not to call, but to write to him.

So no pride?!

No. I wrote to him: “Hello, Egor. This is Ani Lorak, my phone number has changed, please call me back.”

Does he have time for you this time? Did he call back?

Called back. “I again,” I say, “I want to start recording new music, will you have the opportunity to work with me?” He replies: “Yes, it will. Let's try". We met in Kyiv at the studio and started recording. I immediately sang a couple of demos, after which communication began, which was of such a working nature.

Exclusively “worker”?

Yes. But gradually sympathy arose. Nothing foreshadowed, as they say. (Smiles.) I was still in my madhouse state, in my personal relationships, I didn’t understand where my life was heading. I didn’t think at all that I would be able to feel something again, that I would be able to open up to a new person. But at the same time, there were moments that united us. For example, love for Whitney Houston. She influenced the formation of my vocal school. And Yegor, thanks to her work, began to study music.

Did you find out this later?

Yes Yes. I think this is the most important thing - to meet a soul mate, a person who can understand and support you. This is what we call being on the same wavelength, feeding each other.

When did you finally feel this sympathy - on a different level?

To be honest, this happened during our first meeting in Kyiv. I remember this feeling: I just met a man, he showed me something, some music, and simply said: “You don’t need to worry, I’ll close this issue. If I don’t find the answer myself, then I’ll find people who will help us solve these problems...” This all concerned music, but you understand, Vadim, what this means to me. Music is my substance, I can’t imagine myself without it, I’ve been on stage since I was 4 years old. So this support of his was very important to me.

But at the same time, you did not cultivate the sympathy that arose in yourself.

Of course not. Somewhere I even drove her away.

Didn't want all this to take a serious form?

Probably not, I didn’t want to.

Did the age difference also play a role?

Together. (Smiles.)

Did you want to consult with someone, talk about your feelings?

You know, I never consult with anyone, especially on personal matters.

Do you have any girlfriends?

I have friends, but I make all decisions on my own. Who can look into your soul if you yourself cannot figure it out in your life.

At one time, the great Maya Plisetskaya told me: “I don’t give advice to anyone, because they can curse you for giving advice.”

That's for sure.

When did you realize that you were ready for a new relationship?

I just realized that I want to be happy. Then I looked back and thought: how many days of happiness have there been in my life? I remembered them in flashes, and these were more moments on stage, but personal moments were collected bit by bit. I was always running somewhere, and there was no such peace - constant anxiety in my soul. The question is, what should a man give to a woman? Calm. When there is a man nearby who gives you peace, love, care, affection, worries disappear. And Yegor began to give me the care that I needed and began to support me. Although I don’t want to idealize our relationship, I have already stepped on this rake and I believe that illusions are the very traps that we love to fall into.

That is, we must live for today.

I just feel good now, I’m happy and I can share my happiness on stage, with my loved ones, family, with my daughter - she sees her mother’s happy eyes, and this is so important.

How does Egor communicate with your daughter?

Wonderful. They have a wonderful relationship, moreover, the right foundation is being laid that I spoke about. The daughter sees normal communication between a man and a woman.

Do you want to get married again?

Honestly, I'm not ready to get married. I confess that I no longer believe in marriage. I don't believe that this gives anything. Outside of marriage, we value each other, there is something in the air: “I can’t offend you, because, God forbid, I’ll lose you.” There is a constant desire to somehow surprise, delight, and conquer a person. And when everything is already clear, everything is official, you’re already like: well, there it is.

Does Egor know about your attitude towards marriage?

Yes, he has the same thoughts. You just need to be happy, value each other, respect, appreciate and under no circumstances let anyone outside into your life - this is important, because people creep in, people want to know something, advise something, suggest something , and this is absolutely useless.

You started from scratch not only your personal life.

Yes, I also had a “divorce” in my team. It turned out that the people I trusted were deceiving me and taking advantage of my kindness. It's partly my fault that some people thought they could control me. I am too trusting in life, I have it in me. But a number of the mistakes that I made are also experiences that I analyzed. Today, let’s say, this is a different me in all respects. Now I want to live and feel that life belongs only to me.

Did the team change happen at the same time as the divorce?

Yes, at the same time. It was such a turning point in my entire life. To be honest, I didn’t know how I would survive. At some point it seemed impossible at all. The process of analysis is still going on, I am processing some moments within myself, but a rebirth has definitely happened.

Do you think you and Yegor are similar in character or completely different?

We are similar in many ways, the only thing is that I am a public person, but he is not, he is very private, he especially tries not to appear anywhere with me. Of course, he comes, supports me, I need his support and am glad when he is with me. We always have fun, we always laugh, we always listen to great music, we are always on the same wavelength, we always have something to talk about. Being together not somewhere “in a picture”, but being together for real is what is important... I have a feeling that some additional option opened up in my mind, and I suddenly began to see through people, to see their true motives . Now, if a person tells me something, I calmly think it over and answer: “No, these are not vibrations for me and only positive people are nearby - those who understand me, give me strength, inspire, with whom I grow and blossom like a flower. If people appear who make me depressed, give me some kind of uncertainty, I immediately run away - I don’t need it. There is a clear understanding that the most valuable resource is your time.

I absolutely agree with you. You know, I am very grateful for your trust, for the fact that you openly talk to me about such rather intimate things. I appreciate it very much.

It’s not easy for me - you see, Vadim, I’m very worried. This is my first time talking about such topics. Why with you? Because I feel that you will understand me, you are a person of a subtle soul. Someone needs to chew it over, but you can immediately understand everything and draw the right conclusions.

You have a lot of concerts, a lot of performances, in this sense, life is very busy. You are on such an amazing flight right now, I can feel it.

This is true. Just recently my new album “Behind the Dream” was released, which we recorded together with Egor and his team and where I am the co-author of the music and lyrics. This is completely new music for me, and I’m very pleased with how we turned out!

You have changed even in appearance.

I have the impression that Egor helped me with this too. There was a reboot. God, what more does a woman need! Just to have a person nearby who would remind you for 24 hours that she is a diva, a queen, a beauty, that she is incredible, a miracle of this planet, a flower of unique beauty... You have to love and be loved.

It's so simple and so difficult.

Agree. I want to wish every girl to have a very reliable and very thrifty gardener nearby who will water this flower and cherish it. This is what I realized: life is beautiful. You should never despair, and if you don’t know what to do, just take a step forward, and steps in the right direction will definitely follow, one hundred percent!

NEW HORIZONS

Ani, what would you never, under any circumstances, turn a blind eye to?

I’m already used to everything, after all, I’ve been on stage for 15 years. And there were different situations in my life. I guess I won’t be surprised by anything anymore, because these are the laws of show business. Unfortunately, he is not the purest in terms of human relationships.

There is one more point: some people like to feed on other people's emotions. I try to keep such people away from me as much as possible, of course. Experience helps you scan your surroundings, understand who is lying and who is telling the truth...

Family, successful career, daughter... You have achieved a lot, but you are not going to stop. What's next?

It's only begining. Now I'm preparing a new album. We are filming a new video in which I will show my good physical shape. There will be surprises. I feel so strong within myself that I know it’s time to expand my horizons. My task is to give my songs to as many listeners as possible, not only in Ukraine, Russia, but also in Europe, and get closer to realizing my childhood dream - to perform on the best stages in the world, to sell out stadiums. And the most important thing is to make people happy with your creativity. This is my main purpose.
