How to shade eyeliner? Questions for a few minutes

It’s easy to highlight the contour of your eyelids – just know how to shade your eyeliner. Pencil lines neatly smeared in front of the eyes have not gone out of fashion for several years. Smoky eyes, or “smoky eyes,” are a popular option for dramatic makeup all over the world. The shaded pencil gives the look an amazing combination of softness and expressiveness. A similar effect can be achieved with the help of eye shadow or liquid eyeliner, but the alluring look of smoky eyes is easiest to achieve with just a cosmetic pencil.

What will you need?

How to shade an eyeliner is a matter of a few minutes. The main thing is to prepare in advance the necessary attributes for makeup, namely:

  • cosmetic eye pencils with soft lead;
  • makeup base;
  • several latex and foam sponges of different sizes;
  • a set of natural bristle brushes for applying eye shadow;
  • a set of shadows of several colors and shades.

For a successful shading process, you will also need a corrector for the skin around the eyes, high-quality cotton swabs and a sharpener for cosmetic pencils.

Selection of pencils

Buy only high-quality pencils designed for shading. Pay attention to the presence of certificates of compliance with standards so as not to become a victim of allergic reactions and premature skin aging. When using a soft eyeliner, it is not at all difficult to create both everyday, modest makeup, as well as bright, evening and even extravagant for lovers of a theatrical look.

The classic black pencil, as well as dark blue and marsh are considered popular. Brown and khaki colors will appeal to those with green and expressive brown eyes. For blue-eyed women, sea green, turquoise, and silver pencils are suitable. Don't forget about the harmonious combination of eyeliner color and hair and eyebrow shade. Don’t be afraid to experiment with bright shades - a shaded pencil attracts attention, but looks natural.

Colored eyeshadow and shade selection

Often, when color tattooing the eyelids, pastel, gray, and brown shades are chosen. But this doesn't mean you can't choose brighter colors. Only the arrow or the entire shading can be colored. Blue, pink, orange and other pigments create a bright, unusual appearance. These colors are popular among girls who want to stand out from the crowd.

It is best to choose a color, be it a bright tone or a nude shade, together with a specialist. The specialist will choose a pigment that is in harmony with the color of the skin and eyes. The palette of tones in our studio allows you to make a tattoo with shading of any color. Often the master combines several shades at once.

For example, olive and coffee dyes are best suited for girls with dark skin and dark eyes. Blondes with a cold appearance look harmonious with gray and bluish tones. The right color will help create a natural result.

First stage: preparation

An even and healthy skin color around the eyes is the key to successful and long-lasting makeup. Apply the corrective product to the skin of the eyelids using the method of stroking and lightly patting the skin with your fingers. Concealers successfully mask unevenness, bruises and protruding capillaries, which allows cosmetics on the face to look harmonious and attractive. Sharpen your pencil in advance so that the lines you draw are clear and thin.

Features of shadow tattooing

Tattooing on the eyes with the effect of shading shadows is one of the most complex types of permanent makeup. The difficulty lies in choosing a shade of dye that will combine favorably with your appearance type. The qualifications of the master play a decisive role. Only a professional will apply the permanent so that it looks natural and does not differ from neat makeup with shadows.

Benefits of eye tattoo with shadow effect:

  • corrects the shape, visually makes the look more expressive;
  • hides age-related changes, asymmetry, and other imperfections;
  • eliminates the need to apply makeup every day and ensures a well-groomed appearance even without makeup;
  • helps you save on cosmetics;
  • prolongs the youth of the eyelid skin, as it allows you to apply aggressive cosmetics to this sensitive area less often.

The procedure for applying eyeshadow tattoos to the eyelids consists of several steps:

  1. Selection of pigment shade.
  2. Determining the area to apply permanent makeup. This can be the upper or lower eyelid, or both.
  3. Development of a template and its application to the face.
  4. Application of local anesthesia in the form of a gel or cream. Injectable painkillers are not used as they can cause swelling.
  5. Injection of dye with a sterile injection needle. The insertion depth is small - about 0.5 mm.
  6. Treatment with cream for tissue regeneration.

Second stage: drawing lines

Sit in front of a table mirror. It is very convenient to use a magnifying mirror with light. Take the pencil in your hand, resting your elbow comfortably on the table - with a fixed hand it is much easier to draw a neat, straight line.

Draw a solid arrow line on the upper eyelid, as close to the base of the eyelashes as possible. Move towards the inner corner of the eye.

For maximum expressiveness, draw several more pencil layers on top of the first.

Smoothly draw a line along the lower eyelid along the eyelashes - approximately to the middle of the eyelid.

Do not try to draw a line continuously, apply the strip in two or even three steps with a confident movement of your hand. Let the pencil stroke extend slightly beyond the outer edge of the upper eyelid - this will open up your eyes and make them flirty.

Drawing in a circle

If you decide to line your eyes with a pencil using this technology, be prepared for the fact that the result will be much brighter than you expect. Black contours drawn along the mucous membranes and along the edges of the skin will make the look both bold and languid, bright and mysterious. This makeup option is definitely not suitable for daytime wear, but it will come in handy at an evening event.

It is worth starting the procedure by painting the interciliary space, and in this case not only the upper, but also the lower. Then we draw clear lines along the mucous membrane - above and below. The next stage is to completely outline the eye under the lower eyelashes and above the upper ones. You should not try to make the line perfectly clear - it will be shaded in the future. But definitely make sure that the strip is not too wide. Next, use shadows to shade the pencil line and thickly paint the eyelashes.

Third stage: shading

To blend the pencil, use a soft and always clean sponge or applicator. Using light, frequent movements, blend the lines from the inside of the eye to the outside. At the same time, do not smear the eyeliner roughly, thereby stretching the eyelid, but gently touch the drawn strokes. Sometimes it is enough to just run the applicator over the strip once to make the line look shaded. Correct uneven lines with a cotton pad or swab. Blend the pencil on the outer corners of the eyes wider.

To secure the result, apply a little powder to your eyelids. So easily and quickly you can rub the arrows of dark shades on your eyes. When you don't have brushes or sponges at hand, blend the pencil with a cotton swab. Didn't work the first time? Don't be discouraged, next time try to slightly pull the skin of your eyelids when applying stripes with a pencil and while shading. This makes your makeup look more neat.

How to shade eyeliner correctly?

In order for the shading of the eyeliner to be accurate, we will need the following materials and tools:
- base coat for makeup; - soft pencil (preferably several and different shades); - cotton buds;. - sponges; - shadows;. - sharpener;. — makeup brushes (it’s good if they have natural bristles.

Step-by-step instruction.

How to shade eyeliner correctly?
Cosmetic pencils of different shades will help you make your makeup elegant and beautiful. You can create a modest and everyday version, as well as a catchy evening one. Green, brown and blue eyeliner are always useful in your makeup bag.

Now let’s try to make a nice makeup for every day, which will go well with a modest, soft lipstick: Sharpen the pencil. This is necessary so that the line is neat, but clear and thin. Now apply the foundation to the eyelids. With its help, you can preserve makeup for a longer period, and also reduce the risk of losing the brightness of the arrows. Choosing a makeup pencil. Only if you decide to do shading, then you need to focus on dark shades - these are brown, bluish and black options. Use a pencil to draw a clear line along the upper eyelid from the inner to the outer corner.

How to do it?

First we apply a few small strokes. It is advisable that they be slightly layered one on top of the other. And after that, draw the final line. We also draw a line along the eyelashes of the lower eyelid. But you need to pay attention that here we draw a line from the outer corner to the middle of the eye.

It's time for shading. To do this, take an applicator. Using gentle small strokes you need to rub the arrows on the upper and then lower eyelids. This must be done very carefully. After all, the main thing is not to smear, but rather to shade the eyeliner. Did something turn out uneven? There's no need to worry. Everything can be corrected using cotton swabs. It is important to remember that when making strokes with the applicator, you need to be very careful so as not to damage the delicate skin of your eyelids. After all, inadvertently it can be easily injured.

After the pencil is shaded, shadows can be applied on top. These can be either dry options or creamy ones. With their help it is very easy to achieve interesting effects and diversify your makeup.

Pencil instead of shadows

If you want to get the effect of shining pearlescent or smoky eyes, you don’t have to use baked shadows. It is enough just to properly shade an ordinary soft cosmetic pencil over the entire surface of the upper eyelid. For such a case, it is convenient to use special wide and thick eyelid pencils - shading them will take less time. Here you need to follow the following rules:

  • To prevent the pencil from rolling up in the crease of the eyelid, do not forget to first apply a fixing base. If you don’t have a base product, apply powder or flesh-colored shadow;
  • Use a non-sharpened pencil - it is easier to distribute over the entire eyelid;
  • First, shade the moving part of the upper eyelid with a pencil, then slowly blend it with a brush;
  • The outer corners of the eyes should be darker. To do this, you can combine two harmonizing colors - gray and black, green and brown, blue and turquoise.

The combination of shaded pencil and creamy shadows with a radiant effect looks beautiful. Try applying dry shadows on top of the shaded layer - experiment, getting a new effect each time. Having painted your eyelids, you can start applying mascara to your eyelashes. Makeup without mascara will be incomplete.

Useful tips

For frequent use of a shaded pencil as makeup, it is more convenient to use a short, natural brush with a slightly beveled tip. The lines after smearing with a brush are more accurate than after smearing with a sponge or cotton swab.

Pencil shading of a dark color looks more expressive if shadows of lighter shades are applied to the fixed upper eyelid.

If you draw the shading line in the eyelash area on the lower eyelid with another light pencil or shadow, you will get an even softer, muted and natural makeup.

When understanding how to blend eyeliner, remember that liquid lipstick or lip gloss should not be too bright. Masterfully shaded, bright pencil lines attract attention and are the main accent in makeup. Liquid lipstick or lip gloss should not be too bright. Do not overdo it with blush and bronzer - all this, coupled with expressive eyes, looks vulgar and careless.

How to do eye makeup that you want to stare at endlessly?

Estee Lauder international makeup artist Elena Motinova told Lena Korenkova how to make makeup cooler, more expressive and more interesting than “dark shadows in the outer corner, light shadows in the inner.”

Probably, if I had never been painted by Lena Motinova in my life, I would be completely satisfied with my usual make-up. And so I know that I can do better-) That’s why I asked Lena to be my makeup instructor live on the topic “Not boring makeup.” She said “shade” - I shaded it. She said: “with a different brush” - I did “with a different brush”. And it has made some progress - unlike the front camera of the phone, which refused to transmit the resulting glare and shimmer.

Although it’s still clear that the eyes are not stupid?

This is the makeup I did during the live broadcast with Lena. In the photos below - the same, but without her guidance-)

This is what Lena advised.

It is better to apply eyeshadow using a pencil rather than a primer (and especially on bare eyelids)

It seemed to me that a pencil base is needed in one case - when you are doing dark, dark smokey eyes. Lena convinced me that this was not so. If you shade the pencil almost to zero, you won’t look like a panda, and your makeup will become more interesting and look more professional. This is the secret trick that gives the look depth. When you look into the eyes and get stuck.

In general, pencil backing has a lot of benefits. Bend your fingers: it simplifies shading, makes the shadows brighter, prevents them from creasing and fading, plus it serves as a kind of guide on where to apply the shadows.

On the left, shadows from the Currant Desire palette are applied to the skin, in the center - on the primer, on the right - on a brown pencil

Try applying purple eyeshadow to a blue pencil, green to a brown pencil, and pink to a gray pencil.

With 3-4 pencils and one palette, you can make approximately 143 makeup options: the same shade of eyeshadow will look different depending on the color of the base.

Of course, you can apply purple eyeshadow to a purple pencil. It’s clear that it will be very purple-) Lena suggested something more interesting. Use Estee Lauder Double Wear Sapphire as a base. Honestly, I didn’t expect the shadows on top of it to transform so much.

I concluded that it is better to have one eyeshadow palette and several multi-colored pencils than vice versa. You definitely need brown (it is universal) and something contrasting to the color of the iris. For my gray-green eyes, Lena recommended purple, burgundy or blue.

Blend the pencil into the crease of the upper eyelid. You have 30 seconds :)

Then the pencil will lock in place and it will be impossible to move it. We act quickly. How? We move from bottom to top: we paint over the interlash line and boldly draw the eyelash growth line. Shade the pencil over the entire eyelid with a barrel brush (it’s faster). We do not rise above the fold.

It seems simple and clear, but Lena saved me from three mistakes in one sentence. I lined the eyelid and calmly switched to detailed work on the interlash line. Without thinking about the fact that the pencil will now lock into place, and screws up. In general, from bottom to top and carefully shade.

You need bronzer and blush... for eye makeup

In fact, I often use them instead of eyeshadow. But Lena advises not instead - but together. Let's remember: we made a pencil base, applied shadows on top of it, now we need to shade the borders. Personally, I would take a clean brush and move it back and forth to create a haze. A pro will take the same brush and poke it into the bronzer. And then in blush. And then back into the bronzer-) Shake off the excess pigment and only then go over the edge of the shadows.

The effect is cool. The haze turns out softer, the eyes bigger. Eyelid makeup fits more organically into the overall picture.

Hold the blending brush perpendicular to the crease

It happens that you shade and shade, but instead of haze you get dirt. What's the matter? Lena says, most likely you are holding your brush incorrectly. If you apply eyeshadow with a brush holding it at a 20-degree angle (let's say) and then apply pigment to your eyelid with the same brush at a 45-degree angle (again, let's say), it may end up in an unexpected place. For example, under the eyebrow. (By the way, in this case, it’s better to cover up the blunder with light matte shadows. You shouldn’t rub your eyelid with a cotton swab and micellar water. You can completely ruin everything.)

When applying shadow to the brush, hold it perpendicularly so that the pigment fills the entire working surface. Try to maintain the same angle of inclination when shading. It turns out that the brush handle is parallel to the horizon line.

To ensure that kajal stays on the mucous membrane all day, apply it 2-3 times.

No matter how cool and persistent kajal is, it does not fix instantly. She blinked three times - it floated a little and faded. Not blinking is not an option. Therefore, Lena suggests a practical thing: apply a pencil, renew it after 10 minutes, and at the end work the mucous membrane one more time - to be on the safe side.

I ate and washed the plate. I did my eyelid makeup and cleaned the area under my eyes.

I usually clean up anything that has fallen off with a fluffy brush. But you can’t hide a hack job from a makeup artist: “Even if it seems to you that your under eyes are clear, apply an additional layer of concealer,” Lena said.

Something bothered me. Wouldn't a layer of concealer be too thick? And what about the haze of shadows on the lower eyelid, which I spent a long time and lovingly creating? Lena explained: “Before applying makeup to your eyes, do not apply concealer tightly. Keep in mind that you will have to apply another coat. And don't worry about the haze. It won’t go anywhere, and if anything happens, you can lightly blend the edge of the concealer.”

Lena said that the area near the bridge of the nose needs to be thoroughly treated with concealer, because dark circles occur not only under the eyes, but usually also in this area.

Smokey + nude lipstick. But what to do if your own lip pigment is bright?

Bright lipstick matches bright smokey eyes. They demand nudes. But I have bright lip pigment, and, with rare exceptions, light nudes look strange on me. Lena says this is not a problem at all: “Take a brush with the remains of foundation or concealer. Walk over your lips. Lightly powder them. Fill in both the contour and the center with a nude pencil - and apply any light lipstick you like.”
