How is raf different from latte and cappuccino?

What is raf coffee

This coffee drink has gained particular popularity among true coffee lovers. It is based on espresso, and the additional ingredients are cream instead of milk and two types of sugar (regular and vanilla). The main advantage of raf is its soft and delicate taste, which is a bit like a creme brulee dessert. You can draw any design on the surface of the foam if you want to make the drink more original and aesthetically pleasing. Rough coffee is served in a special cappuccino glass or a beautiful wine glass. You can also diversify the taste of the drink by adding spices, seasonings, alcoholic beverages or syrups.

Difference from cappuccino

The main difference between raff coffee and cappuccino is the replacement of milk with thick cream. Due to this component, the taste of the drink becomes much softer and lighter. In addition, the basic recipe of these two drinks is very different. For example, if you need to make a cappuccino, whisk the milk separately and then pour it into the base. If you are preparing raf, then you need to froth the cream with all the other ingredients at the same time - the result is an airy taste that all coffee lovers love.

What is the difference from a latte?

For coffee lovers, similar coffees have significant differences. Despite the fact that the average person has difficulty understanding what the differences between them are.

To make raf, not milk is used, but cream. It's better to take fatty ones.

Only milk is used for lattes. It is prepared in stages, in two variations. One part of the milk is heated, after which it serves as the base - the first layer. The rest of the milk is whipped using a steam vent.

The resulting milk foam serves as the final chord when creating a latte. It is laid out as a top layer in the form of a milk cap.

Adding cream to hot coffee adds a twist; it acquires a richer taste that differs from classic milk coffee.

Rough has a uniform texture. Moreover, special attention is paid to this moment during preparation. A coffee gourmet should fully enjoy soft, airy coffee with a delicate taste.

A characteristic feature of a latte is its three distinct layers, each of which complements the taste. However, they should not be mixed under any circumstances.

Proper serving is an important component for coffee lovers. And here there are also cardinal differences between raf coffee and latte.

Lattes are served in glass glasses so that gourmets can fully enjoy each layer of the drink. It is advisable that the transparent glass be tall.

Raf can be served in a ceramic cup. Another addition is a straw. It is noted that this coffee cocktail is pleasant to drink through a straw. This option is more suitable for women.

When choosing, decide what you want to get: softness, unity of tastes or clearly defined boundaries where the coffee layer adds charm.

Making raf coffee

Rough coffee is a coffee drink that, in the classic recipe, includes espresso, milk, cream and vanilla sugar. All ingredients are placed in a pitcher, after which the contents are whipped with a steam vent and poured into a glass. But there are other recipes, and today we will prepare raf coffee not with sugar, but with syrup.

Algorithm for preparing raf coffee:

— First you need to brew espresso in the pitcher.

- Then pour cream and milk up to 0.5 cm from the pitcher spout, in a ratio of 1 to 1.

- Then add 10 ml. syrup

- And then whisk all the contents and pour into a glass.

Raf coffee is ready.

Classic recipe in a coffee machine

In order to get the classic taste of the drink, first of all, you need to take care of a powerful and high-quality coffee machine. It should not only brew strong and high-quality espresso, but also whisk all the ingredients. To create good raf coffee you will need:

  • 150 g of ready-made espresso;
  • 100 g of cream (it is better to choose one with a low fat content of up to 10% - if this is not available, then dilute it with milk);
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla and regular sugar.

Add all the ingredients for making espresso to the coffee machine and set the base to prepare. While the machine is running, warm up the container into which you will pour the finished drink (you can choose a regular cup or a special glass). Sugar and cream are poured into the pitcher. In some cases, experts suggest adding vanilla in its pure form, but it is better if there is very little of it, otherwise there will be too much bitterness in the coffee. When the espresso is ready, add it to the pinscher with the other ingredients. Next, beat the entire resulting mass using a steam vent. This concludes the main part of coffee preparation. Decorate your coffee with a topping or design, and you can serve it to the table.

How to cook at home

To easily and quickly make coffee at home, you need to use an expensive and high-quality coffee machine, as well as a cappuccino maker. However, not everyone will have such equipment at home - in this case, you can use a classic cezve, which will allow you to get a similar taste and aroma. The following ingredients are used:

  • 1 teaspoon ground coffee;

  • 50 g of water (preferably filtered or bottled);
  • 100 g cream with less than 10% fat content;
  • 1 teaspoon regular and vanilla sugar.

If you want to get a richer aroma and taste of coffee, it is better to grind the roasted beans yourself before cooking. You will feel the difference in taste. A pinch of salt, which is added to the very bottom of the cezve, will also help you improve the quality of the drink. Coffee is poured into a cezve and filled with water - the container is placed on the stove over low heat. In order for the grains to fully reveal their taste and aroma, the cezve is heated gradually. Under no circumstances should the coffee boil. When the foam begins to rise and reaches the edge of the cezve, the coffee is removed from the heat and filtered. If you follow this procedure correctly, the base will be quite strong - if you simply increase the amount of coffee, you will only get bitterness in the drink. The cream needs to be heated in the microwave at this time - usually in standard microwaves you will need no more than 1.5-2 minutes. Next, mix all the resulting ingredients: add coffee, cream and sugar into one vessel, and then beat them with a blender or a special whisk. Warm the serving dish and then pour the resulting drink into it. Additionally, you can decorate it with a pattern or topping.

Cappuccino: what is the secret of popularity

Cappuccino is made from espresso and heated foamed milk. The quality depends on the brewing technology. You need to precisely adjust the temperature of the milk and maintain the proportions to achieve the correct consistency.

The main secret of cappuccino is the ratio of espresso and heated milk in a ratio of 5 to 1. It is important that the milk is finely divided. Temperature – from 60° to 65°. With it, the lactose is separated and the milk acquires a pleasant sweetish taste.

Cappuccino is also important to serve correctly. It is better to take a ceramic cup with a volume of up to 200 ml. Before serving the drink, the cup is preheated.

Recipes with various flavors

Classic raf coffee is very delicate and light in taste, but for true connoisseurs of coffee drinks, there are recipes that can diversify the taste of coffee. In coffee shops, this type of raf can be seen under the names peanut raf or Snickers. It is much less common to find, but if you like to experiment, try making it at home - the results will truly surprise you.   • Espresso;
  • 100 g milk;
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter;
  • Syrup or cane sugar to taste.

When choosing peanut butter, it is better if it is produced in America - it contains the highest concentration of nuts, which means it will give the coffee the expected aroma and shade. First, the paste must be diluted in a small amount of clean water - the resulting mixture should be similar to sour cream. Then add the syrup here, mix everything and pour into the pitcher. Add warmed milk to this mixture as well. At the same time, prepare fresh espresso and add to the already prepared mixture. Beat all ingredients with a blender or whisk. Next, choose decorations to your taste and serve.

Lavender

If you are looking for a drink that will help you relieve stress and get rid of negative emotions, then an excellent option would be to add lavender to the raf, which is an alternative to vanilla in taste. Lavender is also commonly used as a substitute for regular sugar. Take as main ingredients:

History of appearance

Somewhere in the mid-90s of the last century, a fastidious gentleman named Rafael often visited the Moscow Coffee Bean near the Kuznetsky Most metro station. He categorically rejected all types of coffee that were offered to him in the establishment. Apparently, the baristas had a surge of professional pride and they used all their skill and ingenuity to surprise the skeptic Rafael. And they did it!

Interesting: when I saw the name Raphael, I first thought that the capricious client, a fellow countryman of the famous painter from Italy, also had an Italian trace in this story. But no, we owe the “raf coffee” brand to our compatriot Rafael Timerbaev.

This time the barista decided to mix coffee, whipped cream and add vanilla sugar. An exquisite, aromatic, melting cocktail paved the way to Raphael’s heart. He recommended it to his friends, who, when they came to the cafe, ordered coffee to be prepared for them, like Rafa. This is how the drink got its name.

Gradually, new components were added to the classic scheme, different tastes appeared, the brand was born and began an independent life.

Serving raf coffee

As you have already seen in most recipes, the raf is whipped using a pitcher during cooking, but the finished drink is served in a tall coffee glass or cup (in the latter option, you can use a cappuccino mug 180-220 ml).

Compared to others

Espresso

The base for many coffee drinks is espresso. However, there are also lovers of this strong black coffee who drink it in its pure form. Classic espresso is served without milk and additional components that change the taste.

In terms of preparation time, espresso is prepared quickly – up to 30 seconds. Raf requires more attention to himself. The first stage requires the most time - mixing in the pitcher and giving the mass airiness.

Another difference is that espresso can invigorate you in one or two sips. He is most often chosen as a morning helper to wake up. Standard serving is in small coffee cups up to 25 ml. Raf is positioned as a relaxing cocktail with a large portion. It is preferred during the day or evening.

Interesting! Luwak coffee (kopi luwak) is the most expensive variety in the world made from animal excrement

Sugar is rarely added to espresso; it is intended for lovers of strong non-alcoholic drinks. It is suitable for those who love true black coffee with a bitter aftertaste.

At the same time, a mandatory ingredient in raf is vanilla sugar.

Lungo

Lungo is a classic espresso, but with the addition of a double portion of water. Cooking time - up to a minute. The standard serving size is 50 ml.

Ideally, it is drunk without milk or cream. Serve in a small cup. It's best to drink it during the day because a double dose of water makes it medium in strength.

Simple preparation and serving make lungo your everyday coffee. Raf is an evening cocktail and is rarely chosen as a morning invigorator.

Americano

The main rule of Americano is to serve the components separately to the guest. The main ingredient is classically brewed espresso, which comes in a larger cup. In a separate bowl - milk and hot water 70 ml. Addition: sugar. This allows the comefan to adjust the taste on his own.

Rough coffee has a subtle brewing method, and is served in one glass and in a complete variation. The guest should enjoy the delicate taste, and not experiment with the dosage of components.
